Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) SNAP ON VS MILLER timing dial indicator

I was wanting to advance the timing in my 95 12V. REad the bulletin and it discusses using the miller kit, but I talked to a guy who will sell me a used snap on. IS one better than the other? Will I be able to follow the service bulletin using the snap on without a problem. I am assuming the reading will be the same.

the first time i did it i followed the bulletin using the snap on indicator and had no problems

The Snap On kit sells for around $200, or did when I bought mine. Easy to use.

They are both measuring tools , do you worry about different brands of tape measures .
Miller makes those tools for snap on , so no difference , the gauge is made by an other company .

The only difference that I know of is that my Miller kit came with a barring tool. I don't think the Snap On kit has that.

Thanks for info, and BTW yes I do worry about the brand of a tape measure. Won't catch me buying some off brand POS that last a week before it splits.

agreed on the tape measure, but the moral of the story is that the miller set is equal quality or better

I have the SnapOn kit. I think the dial indicator is made by BluePoint if I remember correctly. The first kit I ordered from SnapOn, the larger sweep needle hung up on the peg of the smaller needle when it came past it. I sent the kit back for a new one (I ordered online, rather than through a dealer), and the second one was OK. Just something to check.

im with you on this one i just bought a fresh kit and snapon wasn't even proud enoghf to cover the miller tag with there's they just put the part # on the box i think its sp500 and had the miller number in the other side of the box. the gage is made by starret at least mine is.
