Never fails... haste makes problems :rolleyes: One of my bellhousing bolts was backed out most of the way and rather than remove and clean it I just tried cranking it down. Sheared it off right before it seated :{

So what's a good way to remove a really tight sheared bolt?

a) center punch, drill, helicoil, done.

b) center punch, drill, Easy Out With help from blue wrench, if it does

not begin to turn easily with heat, STOP, See step "a"

c) center punch, drill, Easy out, Easy out snaps off, try to drill around easy

out with smaller bits (they break off too), hours or days later, with

transmission probably out now, the hole is all @#$%^ed up and egg

shaped, you wind up cutting threads wherever they might touch, smear

the helioil in JB Weld and NEVER mention it again to anyone... truck is in

local auto trader two days later :-laf

Please note that Step "c" is only recommended for those of us who

really wanted to work on the truck ALL DAMN WEEKEND ;) Dave.

Well

Since it broke off before it tightend up against the bell housing I would say it's cross threaded. I would go ahead and pull the trans and see what you have to deal with, You might get lucky and you have some thing to work with and it didnt break off in the block. If it's in the block make sure you have some good, sharp drill bit's and a good easy out but just remember take your time if you have to drill it out getting in a hurry will only make more work for you.

If it was me, I would drill as big a hole as possible without getting into the threads then thke the truck out and drive it until everything is nice and warm.

Use an appropriate easy out and give it a try. There is a product available in aerosol can that is used to cool electronic parts. If you can find one, use it to cool the bolt and try removing it.
