Somewhere in here there was a post about where to run snow chains on a dually and several posted about a particular brand of chain that was easy to install and remove but I can't find it, anybody remember? The search function was no help!! Thanks Pete

Just make sure you get cam locks on your chains. Its the only way to go. Takes less than 10 minutes to chain up all four.

I'm interested in this one too. Also, did we decide that the chains go on the front and outside rear?

On the 3500 question post Mike coggins mentioned he liked the Quick Fit Diamond Chains.
I have what they call Ice Breaker chains, it does not have the cams on the side. And by no means is quick fit. More like down and dirty.

The cams you can get too tight and dig into the sidewalls of radials.

Never chain up the front without chaining up the rear. If you do and hit the brakes hard she'll come right around pronto. Don't ask me how I know #ad

LarryB,

Correct you are. For the same reason front wheel drive cars do the same with good traction on the front and not so good on the rear. I too have experienced the 180° end swap. It was at low speed in town, but sure surprised me! I would chain the rear first, and if that is not enough chain all four corners. Been there done that (on a Chevy) and you can bust through some big drifts.

Reading this about snow chains reminds me about the old story of the gentleman of Polish desent that owned a VW and put the chains on the rear wheels and couldn't notice any improvement in traction!!

The only 4x4's in this town with the rear tires chained up are driven by tourists #ad

Next you are going to tell me you drive on the left side of the road up there #ad

The annual snowfall here is 27 feet and everybody including the ski area chain up the front tires first on their 4x4's. How do you guys steer with the front tires locked up?

At a local (so. Cal) ski resort, I saw a Cadillac El Dorado (Front Wheel Drive) with chains installed on the back tires! #ad

I almost fell laughing... . but the funnier part is that the park ranger guy (or whoever it was checking cars past this point) waved them on to proceed... . after all, "Only autos with chains where allowed past that point" #ad
