I agree with the egg under the throttle idea. Even letting off the accelerator quickly can send you into a slide or spin. It is a good idea to practice. Out here people will pull up to a stop sign at an intersection, make eye contact with you, and STILL pull out in front of you.

When that happens, you had better have practiced your emergency driving skills. Sometimes all you can do is punch it and pass them or slide into them while trying to stop. With very little reaction time to decide which one is your best option.

Having said that and reviewing the purpose of this thread, you can drive aggressively and safely on slick roads. The biggest problems I have seen here in the Denver area is the previously mentioned people pulling in front of you, or trying to creep up hills at 5 mph. I attempt to gauge my speed so that I can power up hills, but am slower and in control of my speed as I top them. I have found that when my rear end starts to lose traction and fishtail, a quick grab of 4h and some acceleration will pull the rear end right back behind my front and I'll track straight. (As long as I have somewhere I can steer towards that is open in case of emergency. )

It can be a real blast in one of these things when your throwing rooster tails with all four wheels ( empty streets or off-road). I've also done 6th gear low range spinning all four in mud. My Ford owner hunting buddy says I finally drove like the Dodge commercials. He also learned to close the window when your going lock to lock witht the steering wheel while trying to stay in the two track in the mud. Something about the cab tapering in towards the top and a hard left steering wheel lock-out got him on the power window really quickly. :D
