Getting tired of the whining and hand-wringing by people asking "What we going to do with all the snow?" Hate to think what they would be saying if they lived through a normal Buffalo NY winter.

Other than that the wind has been the real problem. The 30 - 50 mph wind seems to be blowing all the snow into my driveway (note to self - never buy a home with a North facing driveway).

On the bright side, I did find out I can speak a foreign language. Asked my son to shovel the drive and there sure wasn't any comprehension there.

On the rare occasion when it snows in Ft Worth you do not and I repeat do not want to get out on the roads. It turns into one big bumper car ride. Normally we just get a bunch of ice which is worse. When theres ice, rain or snow out the idiots come out in droves and most think they can drive like they always do which is fun to watch by the way.

Speaking of the blizzard, I just received this in an e-mail: :)

WEATHER BULLETIN . . .

Up here, in the "Mile-Hi City", we just recovered from a Historic event--may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions"--with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL

roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI: George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit--or report o n this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody--I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just me lted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people--total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evapor ate. "

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.

I want to live my life so that every morning when I wake up, Satan says "Oh no, she's awake".

Update

After another foot of snow a week later, the driveway is cleared to the concrete. The main roads are cleared and the side streets are ice and slush depending on the time of day. It will be 40 tomorrow and I will try to find the hose and sponge to wash all the magnesium chloride. Wish I would have kept my 88 Toyota 4X4 for this weather. It was already rusted out.

I love the snow. Grew up with it in the 70's-80's in Northern New York when it really snowed up there. The thing that bothers me here in Colorado is the wind that comes with it most of the time. I have lived in Colorado Springs for 8 years and I think there has only been a few times in the 8 years that it actually just fell without high winds and HUGE snow drifts.

Green German Christmas

A green Christmas and New Years here in Germany, which is the mildest I've seen in my 3 years here. Haven't seen a single snowflake yet! Last year I had a brown Christmas--in Iraq, but my wife was here in Germany and was wearing out the snow shovel!

Being from the Western UP of Michigan, this is killin' me! Few more years and we will be retired from the Air Force and living there... can't wait! Oo.
