Snow Plow on a 99 QC long box?

I just bought a 1999 2500 QC long box and was wondering about potentially plowing with it. Anyone have any thoughts??

Does it have the snow plow prep. group? That package comes with heavier front springs and HD transfer case.

I think You would want the heavy springs with 800 Lbs. or so hung on the front of the truck. My truck has this option and the plow still drops the front end a little when it's on the truck.

The plow package wasn't offered to the diesel trucks from the factory back in 99. If you need heavier springs,you can get 47's 48's and 49's from the dealer parts department.

My 95 has the snow plow package, so why wouldn't the 99?



Anyway, mine came (used) with an 8 foot Western, but I've not used it yet. I've used most brands of plows and I prefer the Boss plow on my F-150, but I'm selling that truck and don't want to bother switching the Dodge over since it's already set up for the Western.

Same situation here. I ordered our '99 with the HD case but diesel option locked out the plow prep option. So we did it the Johnny Cash way - - - one piece at a time.



So the truck comes in with the "built especially for XYZ Snowplowing Company" on the sticker, with a follow on comment: "Note: This vehicle not equipped for snowplowing. "



He, he, he - - so far, so good. We did lose the torque converter this summer, but no other major problems. We did have the heavier springs installed as well. Two seasons of plowing, and the truck works like a dream. The only thing better would be a loader with an 18' Daniels blade.

Is all that I need to worry about the front springs? I heard that with the Quad Cab & Long bed that the torque from the Cummins would be too much for the drive shaft if I had to push alot of wet heavy snow. Not sure what is on the truck for springs now but will find out as soon as the sun comes up!!

The problem on the 99 QC plow setup was the 4800# front axle rating. At some point DC decided to dicontinue the plow prep option for the QC until the 5200# front axle was available in 2000. You will want stiffer springs. Beware that with the Cummins you are probably already close to 4700# on the the front axle so hanging a wet plow out over the front will definitely put you over your axle rating. I put the skyjacker 2-1/2" leveling kit on my QC to help with the plowing. Works great.
