What brand of snow plow would people recomend installing on my 2500?

What are the advantages of having the trip edge on the Fishers versus the trip blade on the Meyers and Westerns?

I don't plan on plowing for a living but would be plowing several driveways in the area.

The snow plow dealers said that either the 7. 5' or the 8' could fit on the truck. Is bigger always better?

Sorry for all the questions but I am sure that I can get a lot of input from the TDR members.

stg2500. . I do plow for a living and I can highly recomend the Western. Fisher is made by the same company I do believe. Either is far better than myers IMHO. The Western Pro Plo, Uni-mount system is quick and simple to install the plow. http://www.westernplows.com/

You want a blade that is as wide as your truck when the blade is at full angle. This will keep your tires out of the snow thus more traction. You want a plow that is heavy... keeps the plow on the ground not riding up over the snow. I'm not familiar with the trip edge. But I do know that when my full blade lays down I can see it and slightly lift the blade to get it to return. If you have the trip edge you wouldn't know it triped I don't think. A freind has a Boss V-Plow. http://www.bossplow.com/main.html

Great setup. . or so I thought. He has had two breakdowns in the center pin area now in two seasons. The V has it's advantages and dis-advantages just like eveything else. If you have a steep driveway or big parking lots then the V might be the way to go. Blizzard is another manufacturer that I have been checking out. Straight blade with expanding wings. I thought I had a web site bookmarked for them but I don't. Do a search I'm sure you can find it.

One other thing. Everyone says how hard plowing is on the truck. That is entirely up to you. If you abuse the equipment it will abuse you. If you plow smart the truck will last a long time with no mechanical problems due to plowing. Oh, and put plenty of weight in the bed. Best thing is to get a spreader. Without enough weight in the back to compensate for the weight on the front you won't push anything.

Have Fun!:D

STG. I plow commercially with 4 trucks, one is my 2000 Ram,the 3 others are GMC's. Thisi s my 2nd Ram that ive pushed snow with. The other had a 7 1/2 ft Fisher minute mount on it,this plow is to small for the Ram,IMO. I now have a Boss 9'2" V plow, its heavy, but its nice and wide. Now do youwant to follow DC's recommendations or not. DC recommends only a 633 lb blade, this leaves out almost all commercial plows, except Sno-way. Sno ways are light, and they hold up great, but i wanted a heavier duty plow. I run ballast to compensate for my blade. My plow weighs(gulp 980 lbs). I have Western, and Fishers also,I like the western the best for straight blades,Boss for V's. If I were you,id get an 8 ft minimum, and prefferably an 8. 5 ft plow, this way ,you can get close to curbs, and tight to buildings, and light ploes without clipping your mirrors, wit hte 7 1/2 i was always just missing the truck getting hit, with te 9'2" boss, ive got lots of clearance, and can get closer, while keeping my truck further from the obstruction. You might want to go here,Im a memeber ,lots of good info here too http://www.plowsite.com, The new Western ultra mount is nice,an 8. 5. Also the new Fisher minute mount 2,with new M series blades, you can put a 9 ft on your truck, with some ballast. Here are some pics of my trucks http://www.angelfire.com/ct/construction/johnd.html . I have had a lot of plow trucks, the Ram is the best pushing truck,by far Ive ever owned,it plows awesome, and turns very tight, which is important when plowing. The links to all the plow makers websites are on plowsite.
