Snow plows

Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages between a Steel Boss V-Plow and a Poly Boss V-Plow. The weight is not that much different, from what I can tell.

Any plowers out there wanna weigh in?

If you have BOSS Snowplow questions PM Snow Man he is a commercial snow plower who used the Boss V, but had traded it for a Blizzard plow

Because poly is very slick there is less friction as the snow rolls off the plow. The frame has to be built heavier to support the poly. A steel moldboard requires less framework because it is part of the frame.



What I wonder is why no one sells a sheet of poly to fit over a steel moldboard. The weight addition would be very small and should be offset by the benefit of lower friction of rolling the snow. Of course, if you have a pusher blade you don't need to roll the snow!

Being the head mechanic at the local school, 'er make that only mechanic, we have two plow'n vehicles. Both have the Boss plows. One plow/truck is so new that it was used for the first time this week.

I bought a sheet like this a couple of years ago from Northern Hydraulics. Can't tell you how it works, though, because it's still in the box.

Poly rolls snow better. I have an 8'2" Boss v metal and just got an 9'2"v poly and love it . Boss makes a good poly V

We are a snowplowing contractor in Grand Rapids, MI. Seems like quite a few contractors have gone to the poly set up. I happen to like the steel. We use the Boss 8' straight plows. We did have a poly sheet installed on the plow that is on our '91 CTD. An 8' piece of mini-c channel is welded onto the face of the blade immediately above the cutting edge. The poly is inserted into the mini-c, then clamped to conform to the curve of the plow. Bolts are then used along the top edge of the poly to hold in place. Many contractors used this system before the poly plows were introduced to the market. The poly face on the steel works well, and I've found it to be particularly useful for re-facing older plows, rather than sand blasting and repainting.
