Can you use just straight water out of the Snow's Kit if you didn't want to spray any meth? I have heard that at high HP levels you don't need water/meth, just water as the meth raises the cylinder pressures way to much, is this true?

you can run straight water, but I'd think you might want a little something in there for corrosion resistance... something like water wetter or the like possibly? I'd call Snow and ask.

and to answer your question, yes, there comes a point where the added timing can hurt more than it helps.

one of the reasons water/meth does so well on a lot of street oriented 12v trucks is they have static timing, so if you want to run 20* of timing so that the truck rips on the big end, it's gonna be lazy down low. run 16-17*, it'll be better on the bottom, but EGT's and top end power will be down.

the effective timing increase you get from the methanol really helps :) the cooling doesn't hurt either ;)

IC Smoke,

I'm installing Snow's stage III water/meth injection system this weekend. Everything is in except the wiring. I'm having problems in 2 areas. 1) The temp probe wiring is not long enough and the wiring coming off the monitor is not long enough to reach inside the engine compartment. Did you have to splice in a section of wire for the temp probe? If so what type of wire did you use? Also, where did you mount your monitor? Can you post some pics of your install?

if you tow, get the stage 3. I sure like mine. As the EGTs get higher, the more it injects. And you can switch it to boost only and acts just like the Stage 2 system.

I offer a ? to the electronic gurus

I have ONE thermocouple in my manifold originally for the pyro, I have tapped it again with my cooldown timer. If the wifey lets me spend any more coin, I plan to get the snow 3 kit.

The ? is does adding more and more wires to the thermocople mess with the value of the reading. Seems like it would be a resistor of some sort and ever draw that is added would change the reading.

I bought my snow kit on E-bay before Matt became a big shot. Then after that I think customer service went down the tubes. He drove a VW at that time. I told him to buy a truck, he did. Cooling mist I think has better controllers and stainless jets.

The coolest water methanol injection setup I've ever seen at was at Scott Countryman's shop, Destroked. He'd put a Cummins in a Ford truck that was using a water injection system from ATS. I don't recall seeing it on their website as part of the Waterboy kit. What this truck had was multiple solenoids that would send water to each larger injector. So the advantage was to barely sip at low boost levels and have plenty at WOT and be just right everywhere in between.

I've been contemplating someday doing something similar with my system. I still love my Coolingmist Vari-Cool controller but have had to upgrade to the Snow 220 psi pump. I see Coolingmist now has a 500 psi dual pump kit. Only time I've had a problem with my current system not working was when a boost line had come undone. To mimic that solenoid system with several injectors, I'm thinking of still using just the two different sized injectors I now have, but perhaps putting a check valve in line for the bigger injector so the smaller injector gets water first, then the big one. I really like how the Coolingmist injectors can be threaded and installed from the outside of the pipe, don't have to worry about the nozzle coming off inside the pipe. But if you don't have gauges, Snow's kit has that.

how about head gaskets? water doesnt compress like air so adding water with higher boost should be hard on head gaskets, no?

Yes, there is an increase in cylinder pressure, an increase in boost, and an advance in timing, all potentially affecting the life of the head gasket. That is why many retard engine timing when using water injection. I have never seen over 49 psi with my current setup but EGTs get me to back off quickly anyway. I've gotten by with just re-torqued stock head bolts.

In regards to using the washer fluid reservoir, I frequently use straight water in the summer since it is cheaper, often free. Wouldn't be as effective for cleaning the windshield. I use a custom made plastic 7 gallon tank mounted under the body of my truck just for water/methanol. My truck drinks a lot very quickly. I can barely get only a couple hours of driving on one tank if I'm in the mountains or driving fast enough that my boost is up consistently. A one gallon shared reservoir would be almost useless for my application.

I have PLENTY of air and fuel but am looking for more without changing the VP... yet. and I am concerned that @ 60+psi +water will just be too much without ringing the head.

Here is another name to throw in the mix. Labonte Motorsports, they offer up 50/50 kits that are cheaper than Snow and look equal to performance. Can't remember the name for there kit, just do a search for Labonte motorsports.

By the looks Collingmist seems to be the better quallity over Snow and several lookalikes. I know my uninstalled Snowsystem(Pump DOA) feels like a crappy toy.

Other things that speaks for Coolingmist are tunable 2D mapping, a lot of different parts for custombuilding your own system, tunable digtal controllunits with datalogging included, and a very informable website.

And now they have 250 Psi pumps as complementation to the 150 Psi pumps.
