Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
I had a chance to see chains in acton this past deer season. They called them "iron" rather then chains. Like "Whitmore" mentioned, these were made from old grader chains. Iron on all four corners. Lots of tarp straps to keep them tight. Had the "iron" on a late model Dodge V10 Auto. It was incredable what we went through. Did get stuck once. Had to crawl out the windows, could not get the doors open. A little shoveling and an hour later we were rolling.
With tall tires, a heavy truck, iron and a cummins... you would be almost unstopable!
