I have a fuel pressure gauge that has the shakes. What do I need to dampen the pulses coming from the pump? Thanks in advance.

I installed an electric fuel sender back in 2001 and the only snubbing that I am using is a rubber grease gun hose running from the fuel filter to the pressure sender (there is also an OEM rubber hose running from the injection pump to the fuel filter for added snubbing). Also, if you are using an electric sender (which I am guessing), make sure that the sending unit is not located on any engine component as the vibrations can kill it. I made a special bracket which hangs the sender from the brake fluid reservoir which is essentially like hanging it from the firewall.

Thanks David, but my gauge is directly fed from the test port on the vp44 with a shut off valve. It is mechanical only.

Being mechanical you might be alright, but I have heard of people inserting a needle valve or rubber hose. The fluctuations are probably due to your location (being directly on the injection pump). This is where the pulses originate. Can you not relocate it to the fuel filter (injection pump side) so you distance yourself a bit?

If you wait until Monday when I get to work, I will get you the part number for a Cat snubber. We used to have put them in the Freightliners with Cat power that had a mechanical fuel pressure gauge. The needle in the gauge would just thrash from pin to pin until a snubber was installed.

I can't remember the part number right now, I do remember that it is written on the wall by the mechanics counter... ... ... . :-laf

Moe, one last thought. Perhaps when you installed it originally, you trapped some air in the line which acted like a snubber and that is why you didn't see any fluctuations. As the air gets absorbed, your dampening is lost and you now are now seeing them. It sounds like mwilson has your answer.

Found part number when I got to work today.

Cat Part # 7S3795

Should sell for around $25. 00. It is 1/8" pipe thread according to the bulletin below.

Geno's is most likely the same thing, only a little less cost. Maybe you are close to a Cat dealer.

You can also braze or solder one end shut on one of your fittings, then drill a #12 hole through the plug. Works very well.

look up "TORK-TEK" there snubber is by far the SHi#. Rock steady needle!!

Same problem here. Mine comes from air getting in the line. It always seems to leak at the connection to the gauge because that is where i see small amounts of fluid. I have a snubber, but it doesn't keep it from leaking Am still trying to get it to work though.
