Thanks, TDR Staff

Hats Off To Craig Johnson!

4x4 trail ride No Cal/ No Nev?

WELL TDR BASICALLY BLEW FORD AND CHEVY OUT OF THE WATER IN PULLING AND SHOW AND SHINE. VERY SUCCESFULL EVENT. if im wrong please correct me. JAKE. :D :D

Craig,Once again thanks for the hard work and drive on this as I think for a first year it was GREAT!I think the track turned out to be pretty good. Sorry to all the folks from out of town as the wind is not normally this bad! That storm front that went through brought the wind with it!I would also like to thank Frank from Pa. for comming all the way down for this. hope to see everyone next year!

Yeah, it was a pretty successful event, just wish more people pulled. 20 trucks total really didn't cut it from all the hype on the internet.

I just want to say thanks to Craig for organizing such a great event and hopefully next year will be a bigger puller turn out. I was certainly impressed with BBD and csutton7's trucks. I wished I could have put on a better show as I only pulled 160ft. and chose too low a gear. I thought for sure 3rd gear 4 low was perfect with my 3. 55 gears and 37" tires. Now I know 4th gear 4 low would have been a better scenario but I would have come away with no clutch rather than some clutch left as it does slip now in 3rd through 5th gears. It should last a while until I get my 13. 25" SBC installed which I will probably order before the week is out.

I wouldn't exactly say that, the Fords didn't have anything for us, but the Izuzu powered Chevys gave us a run for the money as they pretty much took the trophy's home. But that was only due to about 2 or 3 CTD pulling against like 5-6 Duracraps. I think Craig was the only one to give the duracraps some competition.

I was a very fun event. I will go to the next one for sure. I will also pull. I do regret that I didn't pull this time. Thanks Craig Johnson and all for putting it on.

I think that covers it. I really want to thank everyone again for coming out, It was great getting to talk to everybody, and I apologize if I didn't get the chance - crazy day. I was litterally directing some staff members on the 2 way radio while hooking to the sled. The temp needle wasn't even off the cold stop when I started my first pull. I also want to thank everyone in the extreme class for coming out, all of them traveled a long distance to get there. Especially Frank and his crew who came from Pennsylvania to attend this pull, and one of his crew members (David Weller, who I now consider a friend) who ended up doing all the announcing for the pulls as I got totally consumed with other things. Thanks Bud. Frank you and your crew are A1 and I want to thank you and everyone that came out with you, its our pleasure having you guys pull with us out here. Then there is Scott Vorhees, this guy has supported this event before it was even a reality. Its guys like him who make sled pulling fun to watch. That truck is awesome and believe it or not its a daily driver. It only comes in on a trailer because its an 8 hour tow home if it breaks. Scott took home $1,000 dollars for winning both Ext . classes and he deserves every penny. He stripped that immaculate truck to the bone to make the 7500 class, nothing but a drivers seat in the cab and no rear bumper. Also thanks to Brian Kinney for coming out and Chris Sutton who practically drove through the night to make it. I hope all of you know how much I appreciate you coming out. Also a special thanks to High Roller Offroad and Super Diesel out of Huntington Beach for Title sponsoring the event, couldn't do it without all the help. Also Hunter Dodge, Antelope Valley Ford, and all the other vendors. The promotion help from the Turbo Diesel Register was priceless - Thank you.

The Dmax boys were tough in the Street class as I knew they would be, and they are a great bunch. I'm not letting them off the hook so easy next time though. My tired old truck has 120,000 miles on it and has to tow a 13,000 lb gooseneck horse trailer on a regular basis. I'm coming with a little something extra next year though - like a real healthy set of injectors just for pulling and a way to hook it up. That was my biggest problem, I think I had as much or more wheel speed as anyone in the class, just couldn't get it laid down. Pretty happy with my 2nd in the 7500 class, but couldn't hook it up in the 8500 for some reason. Got a bad line on the track or something. That won't happen again. I really enjoyed meeting and talking to EVERYBODY.

Thanks again everyone.

Craig

I believe it was just about anything pump and injector wise, but I think the turbine was limited to a 3" outlet. Oh and of course, no propane, nitrous, w/m, etc. , of any sort as they searched my truck for anything hidden. :D

thanks craig for putting on the pull. wife, son and i had a good time. although i didnt get a chance to meet any of you. saw joe, scott and chris--nice rigs. maybe i can meet you next time. next year ill give'r a go...

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Seems a good time was had by all. I think there will be a lot more pullers next time - lots of buzz since the event.

Thanks for coming out.

I havent heard anyone commenting on making this a SATURDAY event, for the pulls that is? :p

I agree with that as Saturday would better so we can get trashed after the event and not have to go back to work the next day. More people from out of state might come too, seeing as they have an extra day to get back home.

Saturday would be great, maybe dyno on Friday and pull on Saturday. That gives us time to get our **** together and leave Sunday morning. I would most likely dyno but not pull. Good thinking Joe.

Bruce

Bruce, Where can I find a picture of your engine compartment? I heard it is quite the piece of art.

I would love to see a peek.

Thanks,

Thanks from the Mrs.

Hi all,

I know that Craig has already thanked everyone, but while he is off climbing Mount Whitney this weekend I got my own id on this website so I can sneak in my own thank you!! Hopefully he won't be too embarrassed. This event was so important to him and I have never seen someone have such passion for something. It couldn't have been as successful without the support of all of you that showed up... and many from far places!!!

There were alot of other things I had in mind for our first four months of marriage :--) other than learning about turbos, torque, traction bars, etc. etc. , and waiting for my hubby to get off this website at midnight!! But really, nothing made me happier than to see this turn out like it did. I really enjoyed working the registration booth and in the announcers booth recording the distances for Dave. And hey, a little diesel rap never hurt anyone!! It was great to meet many of the people that Craig has been talking about for months now and everyone was awesome!

We'll definitely hold the event on a Saturday next year. We got stuck with a Sunday because of the issues we had with the first venue. But thanks for sticking it out this year!!! I agree that a Saturday night, post pull party is the way to go.

Sooo, now we have a few months off until our Line-X franchise opens so we'll squeeze in some downtime before that chaos hits, but we're already making preliminary plans for the SECOND ANNUAL HIGH DESERT DIESEL ROUNDUP so please feel free to voice any suggestions. I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone and hopefully more pullers next year.

And Craig, what's this about getting new injectors for next year?????????

Will this be before or after buying my Turbo Diesel???? :)

Thanks again to everyone... . and sorry for the estrogen interruption into your testosterone thread! :-laf

Christy Johnson

Christy,Glad you enjoyed it!I know Craig was going nuts trying to pull this off and glad I could help out (even though it was just a little). Hope his turns into an annual event!Did you guys find a location for the shop?Hope Craig has a good time on the mountian. I'll give him a call when he gets back.

Mike

Hi Mike,

The shop will be streetfront on Rancho Vista, just east of Sierra Highway. There is an existing industrial park there now. At the far east side of the park is an Auto Body shop and right next to that is a dirt lot that is being graded... . that's us!! Construction is supposed to be done Feb. 1. The plan is definitely to have HDDR be an annual event... it can only grow from here. Even though we need more pullers, there has been a lot of positive feedback from those that attended, the sponsors, the racetrack manager, etc. I figure alot of locals probably came to check it out, having not seen a sled pull before, and will probably try a pull next year. I told Craig he should consider a women's class, but not sure how well that would be received. Might be just me burnin' up a clutch out there!! Could always just go in the exhib. class I suppose. Craig still hasn't made it back from Whitney yet. Got a call last night that they had some kind of problem but were ok and needed one more day to hit the top.
