So Cal Rattlin Rams- Feb 21 Wrench Day

Oo. OK Boys and girls!

I was just looking back- pretty ironic, but EXACTLY one year ago to the day was our last wrench day, and it's time for another. Do I sense an annual trend here??;)

For those of you who misses last years event, it was a big one. By far our largest turnout with more than 40 trucks.

I got the thumbs up from my boss :D

It will be Saturday- yes SATURDAY, due to overwhelming demand.

Saturday, February 21 9:30AM

at 3071 E Ceena Court, Anaheim

This is at my place of business. I work here and have to answer to the ones who own this property. PLEASE respect that fact and follow the simple and basic conditions in which we can use the grounds.

This year for sure we will be having a hoods up Q&A. This is the opportunity for new members and owners to ask any questions at all and the basics will be covered.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Due to our inability to responsibly and safely perform fluid service, we are unable to allow fluid service change (IE Radiator Flush, Transmission Service, Oil change, Differential work, etc) Sorry, but the business owners WILL NOT allow it. We are under a watchful eye of the local fire authority for our use of photochemistry and don't want to send up any flags. ANY and all work must be OK'd BEFORE it is performed.

We will be also have a BBQ going, and food and drinks WILL BE PROVIDED!!!! Your contributions with shirts have made this possible. :D

Please begin posting your requests for work. I want to be prepared (tools and personnel) and want this years event to be organized  (Hey I can try, can't I???)

Let me know! And lets go!

Kev!!

We will also be announcing a DYNO Day in March, Courtesy of a sponsored event at AFE - this way we can see how much HP we added!!

I'll need some help!!

Hey Kev, glad to you got time to do a wrench day.

I'm going to need someone's help in figuring out why my speedometer does not work.

First some backround.

The truck is a 97 3500 auto, modified valvebody so pressures are not stock. I would have a problem of 3rd gear starts, most of the time when the transmission is cold.

Bob 4x4 had recommended that I get a device that would fool the PCM into thinking that it was seeing the right pressure and launch normaly. Some how during the install when I went out for the test drive I noticed that I did not have a speedometer, so I put it back to stock and still no reading. The box that I got was from BIll K. talked with him a few times and he said that the speedo signal is picked up from the rear diff. So I replaced the rear wheel speed sensor, no change.

So if anybody wants to take a stab at it, look for me, white truck with Amsoil stuff on it and a lic. plate that reads N6OIL

I'll bring my test gear and ramps, floor jack and stands if we need to spin the rear wheels to look for a signal or compare with someone's elses to see what I should be reading (Bob you might know this) Also if anyone has a spare PCM to try out would be great!!

Thanks all

Rory

HOPE TO BE THERE

BOB 4X4 informed me about the local get together. I'm planning to attend but I don't know what all is available so I'll attend in quite mode. I've been told that it should breath more for towing our 5th whl. The improvement I need would probably be the price of a new truck. .

I will be there, with tools and ready to help.

For those who don't know, I'm at Cummins Diesel Tech who works for Cummins Cal Pacific. If you have had a problem/grudge with CCP, please do not hold it against me.

Working on Dodges is my hobby, for the first time, one that pays. During Wrench day I do not charge or expect to be pay for working on some ones truck but I do expect people to gather around so they can learn and feel confident to try it later. This is what Wrench Day is all about, helping each other and learning about our trucks and engines.

I'm not an expert on the truck, Bob4x4 is your guy, but I do know the engine very well and how to lift the front suspension on a 2WD. Feel free to ask questions, I will be, I always learn some thing knew about a product or a new set-up.

We need a list of what things we are going to do, this way the right tools are available and time is manage between trucks.

For those who need Cummins Parts, I need to know ASAP so I can check prices and get them together. The more items I get, the better chance I have in talking the Part Manager on bigger discounts. There is no money for me, all I ask that if I ever need some help I can count on someone to be there.

This time I will be bringing a EviroGuard kit by FleetGuard. I believe retail is $225 but again depending on interest I can probably get it lower. I did the first one in 30 minutes and so far, good reports, no more oil drips from the breather/draft hose with bottle removed.

Bruce I think we should sell tickets for a ride on your truck. Bring extra Boost Hoses and I'll bring the ear plugs and some one bring a seat cover so it does get soiled, plus we have paramedics.

Pablo

Thanks to Pablo in advance- he (as well as Bob) were BIG helps last year. I for one have interest in the inviroguard. Pablo, you might bring some injector line washers, there has been one request already for injector install.

So far:
  • Injectors
  • Fuel Pressure gauge install
  • How to change lift pump / fuel filters
  • Install fueling box
  • KDP Issues?
  • Banjo Bolts
  • Speedo Issues

Come on guys, you won't get this opportunity very often- so step up! We need to know in ADVANCE of any work wanting to be done!

If you are coming to learn and watch that is equally good- I need a head count for food and drinks!

2 weeks from today and counting!Oo.

Kev

I am hoping to have my new turbo to install. It isn't something that is very hard to do but I would love to do it in front of everyone and help with Q & A as much as I can. Greg

Well heck guys, I let you off easy this time. My brother and I installed my ATS manifold last month. So now all I have is the speedo problem. Question, should I buy a sender that goes on the transmission? or could I borrow one off someones truck to test with? PM me if you have any questions.

By the way, I have good used parts:

Used starters with the heavy duty contacts.

Core injectors and cams for those who want to keep their olds ones if there is a core charge.

Turbos ready to be rebuild, HX35's & HX40's.

European/Marine Valve Covers, two with oil fill, these use a grommet instead of the o-ring on the bolt, this cuts back on the the rattling coming from the covers.

Front Covers and Gear Housings for the 12V.

Fuel Shut-Off Solenoids, HD style and a few brackets to go with them.

If I don't have it let me know and I'll see if I can come up with it.

Pablo

Kev, what are the chances of buying a KDP Jig out of donations from those that want to take care of it that way? I'm not sure what it goes for but I do know some guys are charging as much as $100 to do it with their shop jig. This way we have one here locally and take deposits with donation when it needs to be use on other occasions other than a group gathering.

Pablo

:{ I'd love to come, but I don't have my truck... Someone ouched it pretty bad. If it gets back from the shop in time, I'll try and make it. No job makes it a little harder though.

Kevin, I just received a complete gauge setup (EGT,Boost, FP,pod) that I will be installing.

I could sure use some help with the drilling/tapping for the pyro and some supervision for the FP gauge install.

Kevin, I'll be there. I have to install a set of starter contacts. Also, if anybody has an afc spring set I might be interested in that or just some fine tuning. Also, is adjusting pump timing a possibility or is this too tall of an order for a wrench day?
