Hi to everyone here. Happy Holidays. Best wishes for a terrific 2002.

OK, some of you probably remember that 2001 wasn't very good to "Baby" my 98. 5 TD. In July I had Great Lakes Cummins replace my block and rings at 103,000 miles.

Before I headed West last month I had severe slipage (LSD) when taking off from a dead stop. I knew it was the LSD, I heard and felt this kind of thing before.

Anyway, $3600 later and several days of hunting all over the US and Canada, we finally located and had shipped in a brand new 4:10 LSD, just kept the housing and axles as they were OK. The job was done in Lake Wales FL and it was fine. The truck and 36' 5'er arrived in CA (Palm Springs) last week and seems fine.

Now, the next issues are the following.

1. I need some AMSOIL ATF for the transmission. 1 Qt. is all.

2. Truck has a vibration that seems to make the passenger seat quake. The tires are new and spin balanced several times. I can live with it but if anyone has a remedy let me know.

Sorry for the long post. Everyone be safe and keep the tailpipes smoking!!

Sorry to hear about your problems, did you determine what caused the engine and rear end failures? Is it something we could all learn from and possibly avoid ourselves?

Thanks

Dennis

Well if you can beleive anything a dealer tells you. ? The block answer... defective from the start.

4:10 LSD, right spider gear fractured, small metal pieces re-circulated etc... .....

answer..... defective spider gear??? Unsure really.

How about that AMSOIL???????

Block

Sorry I'm new to TDR and not familiar with your engine problems. Do they have any idea why your block and rings had to be replaced at 103,000 miles? That seems surprising.
