Miserable POS Dial-Up

I am not too far from the main trunks in DFW, but our community has ancient phone lines that are little better than the previously mentioned tin cans and string. Best connection I can get is 26. 4K, better than the umpteen hours I spent online years ago at 300 baud but sure a far cry from cable.

I am waiting in agony for cable to reach us so I can have a connection with good pings. I like to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein online (Woohoo, what a great game :D ) but am tired of getting spanked by LPB's. Someday, vengeance SHALL BE MINE... .

DSL at home,

And remember the "tin can telephone"? That's what we use at work! And they're always repairing the string.

Yep, I just renewed for 12 months at $26. 95! It was $39. 95 before that. When I first signed up (4 years ago) it was $49. 95, once you have broadband you're addicted. There's a reason why it's often referred to as digital crack...

I just tapped into the Moonraker 4 at a tilt of 51* and shoot a signal at the moon, wait 1 millasec for the return echo. Can be tricky during lunar eclipse an when sun spots are at there peak. If that does'nt work, I usually use the dial-up/$9. 95 month/cheap!:D

Matt

I consider myself fortunate to have DSL, I know a lot of people who are too far from the CO to get it.
