So how is San Antonio

Was thinking about moving to San Antonio from Chicagoland. Just getting some thoughts.

Spanish is NOT a second langauge! Other than that it's pretty nice 10 1/2 months of the year. That 6 weeks the temp will be at or exceed 100 F. Winter is a Thursday afternoon in February, and they manage to have one Ice storm about every 3 years. Just stay home that day. Short drive to the Hill Country, 2 hours to Corpus and the beach, with all kinds of things to do.



I like SA, worked out of there for 4 years.

One word, HOT!!!!!! San Antonio is a nice place, I load up the 5er for a weekend every now and then. Seriously though, it does get hot down here. Last few days all above 100 with an actual feel like temp around 105-107. Have to factor in about 40-50% humidity.

It's not too bad driving around either, no big confusing freeway interchanges, pretty simple. IMHO, take a vacation there and look around, unless you have been there before.

It's a nice area - close to the Hill Country. The climate is typical south central Texas - yeah, the summers are hot, but you can leave your snow shovels behind. In fact, we're looking for retirement property in the San Antonio-Austin-Kerrville triangle right now.

Lived there for 7 years and enjoyed it very much, especially as the areas around as mentioned (Hill Country, Gulf coast, great fishing, great hunting, though you do have to learn the Texas system of leases). As stated Spanish is not a second language!, but found the people, FOOD!!!, life there very good, AND NO WINTER, "... Winter is a Thursday afternoon in February... " very well put Denny

A cold front is the temp dropping from 103 to 100 then a 5 minute rain shower if we r lucky. . or unlucky depending on how u look at it cause the rain raises the humidity again and it feels like 105... ... Its auctually not that bad... Lived here for 22 yrs... The hill country is awsome... Just hope u r not alergic to ceader... "Winter" is nice... good excuse to throw on a jacket if u r so inclined... As SHobbs said the highway and interstate interchanges r nice and easy go get around on... Just make sure the a/c in ur truck is up to snuff

easy highway exchanges! try following I-10 all the way through! If you don't know when to turn, which lane to be in when you do turn, you 'll end up in Austin instead of on I-10. Never seen an interstate that you had to switch lanes so many times to follow straight through. But like they said, overall not too bad to get around in.

... ..... on a Sunday afternoon, during spring break. LOTS of people. Hard to move around. Although, plenty of eye candy. Oo.



My brother lives in SA. He misses the climate changes. It is either plenty warm, or HOT and humid. He said the humidity is even worse than here.



If there is a straight road in SA, I never saw it. They ALL seem to wind around everywhere. As far as cities go, it is pretty nice.

I agree I 10 is screwed up in town, but those that know use I 610 to get around

Yeah, but we're usually trying to get to Victoria, so we stick to I-10. If you come in on 90 it's not too bad, though.

The first murderr scene i've seen was in SA.

I like the River Walk, very cool, and the Alamo is interesting. The Wal-Mart there is one of the scarier ones I've been in though!

There are some nice neighborhoods inside San Antonio on the north/northwest side, the Alamo Heights area is pretty nice and not too far from Brackenridge Park, the zoo and museums and stuff. Personally though I prefer the nice newer housing editions on the north side on 1604 (section between I-10 and I-35), and then northwestward along the I-10 corridor toward Boerne. You can buy a LOT of house for your dollar here in Texas.

The winters i thought were pretty d@mn cold IMO... during the Rodeo in February it's the coldest time of the year. Middle 30's during the day . . that humid air turns cold and cuts through you pretty good! It's really not that great there. . there's very few good paying jobs and it's depressing if you are an anglo-saxon, you are in the minority and they make you feel like it too If it weren;t for some of the friends i met from TDR there and the good times with the diesel truck events... it would have been horrible. I did finally learn to love Americana Texas music. . you don't hear it in California. . thank God for XM radio Good luck!

Hey Greg, I tried to get you several good jobs down here... Of course you aint going to make any money hauling tires, and using your own truck...



I work for the utility company here, and with 3 years in the company, I am just below $15 an hour. There are good paying jobs, readily available down here, but you have to want to go out and find them.



As far as winters, they are pretty mild, but we get fronts in on a normal weekly basis... So basically, you have winter, then thursday, friday, saturday, and Sunday... Summers are pretty hot, but having lived down here almost all my life, I am used to it.

No they don't. . I have encountered several people who were like that, but as soon as you bark back at them, they usually back down. . Nothing to worry about.



San Antonio is a decent place to live, just because (At least in my opinion) it is a centralized location. . 2½ hours to the coast, 1 hour to Austin, 30 min to Gruene Hall, 45 min to Canyon Lake, or Medina Lake. . Everything is fairly close. . I think you will enjoy it. . If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me. .

Not complaining at all. Just something I'm not used to. I didn't think I-10 was all that bad. I've been in worse (Omaha), going through road construction. For a big city, I thought traffic moved fairly well, given how many people live there.



Traffic isn't generally all that bad where I drive here, but it is worse during the summer with all of the vacationers. Most roads run in a straight line here and in more of a grid pattern, unless you are near a river. SA, they don't.

No. My brother has lived there almost 4yrs, and I've only been able to get down there once. Hope to again. Only get to see him approx. twice a year. :{ Christmas and once or so in the summer. Really sucks. He went down to be an intern (web and graphics design) for 5 months, for a company there, when he was just shy of his 17th birthday. They hired him on, and he's been there ever since.

One of my native New Yorker friends who is now a naturalized Texan has the bumper sticker, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here just as quickly as I could!"
