I was installing a much larger UPS to prepare for upcoming server upgrades. We have been running on a UPS that would only keep one of our servers up. In the past it wasn't a big deal because the 2nd server was just a backup. Since last winter both servers have been live and the database server has been on the battery backup with the web server running just on AC. The facility has generators to take over but there is a switch over time so if power went out the site would be unavailable while the web server rebooted. This new UPS (it weighs 150 lbs) will support both existing servers plus additional ones that we will be adding later this year. This trip to Atlanta came at the last minute to cover the chassis cab intro and I wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone and get this UPS in while I was here. I flew in on tuesday and worked 18 hours yesterday and all day today. This afternoon was the only window I had to get downtown and get it installed. I try hard to keep daytime downtime to a minimum but this was the best I could do right now. The site was down for about 12 minutes total. Also, the servers are hosted in a facility in the heart of downtown Atlanta and it's not an area that I feel like heading into in the middle of the night unless it is absolutely necessary if you know what I mean. I fly back to Michigan first thing in the morning.
