I dont know if any one has noticed but lately there have been a lot of VP failures with the po216 code. my truck included, with only 42k miles. and lots with even less. What does pump timing error actually mean? I talked a little bit about to the guys at Piers who told me that it wasn't actually the Vp part of the pump that was failing but the electronics or the internal pressure regulating stuff. When mine went the the failure was intermittent and became gradually worst over a period of about 8k miles. I believe that if the pump itself had actually failed it would have just lost pressure and failed, and not become an intermittent problem. my question to you guru's of diesel dynamic is what is actually failing in these pumps, and does it need to be 1500 dollar fix. Is there maybe just a sludge screen that needs cleaning or possibly a solinoid that can be replaced?
What do you think? What do you know?
