So Many CTD's...

As we drove from the east Texas border at Louisiana to Southern California I observed at least 3-CTD's for each one mile of travelOo. All configurations flat beds, pickup, worktruck etc... I counted them in opposing traffic, passing us, and in the communities bordering Texas from the Louisiana border on route 20 to the western boarder before New Mexico. Okay y'all from Texas, tell why I observed so many Dodge CTD's of all vintages? :-{}

These trucks do what we need em to. Everything is bigger and better in Texas including the number of Dodge/Cummins trucks.

now you know why texas is called the truck capitol of the country! you must have travelled on what i call an odd day. i travel from bossier[ 1h east of the tex/la border] to dallas/fw[3hrs west of the state line] several times a week, sometimes everyday of the week. most often ford has more trucks out there then dodges. gm has never had an edge. i have a friend further down the i-20 route, claims very often he see's more fords, then duramax's, then dodges. duramax's are reasonably popular with the horse people and weekend hauler's around my parts, but most trucks that have to work are ford or dodge branded. dont see but a few 1st gens, anywhere, 12v's second gen's are almost as rare. 24v's pretty common, but the commonrails are more common then it's predecesors. with the introduction of fords 6. 0, i have no doubt seen dodge shorten the gap in newer truck sales, especially at places like livestock sales/shows, and equipment auctions. on the other hand, i'am starting see a lot of new 6. 4's as opposed to 6. 7's.

my opinion is it has to do with what brand has strong dealership plus some history, since moving to east tx here seems to be several strong dealers here and lots of dodges, more dodges it seems in the oil & gas patch for the welders, i've always seem alot of chevys in west tx and south tx, fords more in the populated areas,



seems like there's lot's of younger folks around here driving cumnmins and making them about 1/2 hotrods, big tires, wheels & straight pipes



see alot of ford in Dallas/Ft. worth

yep, see a lot of that kid stuff around here too. kids running the snott out of them like the fuel is free and the parts are too. whats sad is driveing by the dealer[whatever brand] and seeing those hot rodded trucks sitting there waiting for repairs. also see some getting traded in too. we did more then our fair share of hot rodding back in the day, [yes even some old n/a diesels] but tearing up new trucks, hell half of our parents didnt even own new trucks.

makes me sure want to check out my next truck which will probably be a used 5. 9 unless I can find a really sweet 2nd gen but that's several years away, there's a kid here with a really nice 3rd gen dually 4x4 that runs on "crazy larry" on his box/tuner since new, I'd sure hate to have that truck



met another young man who I was going to buy some wheels from, had a 6. 7 and told me his grandad co-signed, changed injectors, pulled all the emissions off, blew it up at 54k miles with no warranty, beat to he** sitting in the drive with no engine, feel sorry for grandpa



the main thing I see down here that amazes me is the tires they put on duallies, some tires even touch!! if you put a decent trailer on the back you blow the tires real quick,



oh well, I was a kid once and rodded my first pickyp when I was 14, a 1956 chev straight 6 with a 3 on the tree, drove a tractor for $1. 25 per hour to pay for that one



the shop that just put my turbo in had a duramax dually 4x4 in the shop, the kid's dad ran a gentlemen's club (strip bar), there were putting a $22k duramax in it that was supposed to make 800 hp, they had a pool going on what would be next, the transmission, rear-end, etc and how long it would take

yes sir, times sure have changed. buying used diesels these days definitly brings the term to mind for me 'buyer beware'. sad part is, with all the stuff strapped to the new ones, it's a gamble to.
