So what do you do with a rollover?

Awhile back a friend bought an 03 Quad Cab short box 4X4 that had been rolled. After taking the body off and cleaning all the mud from the frame he got to work on the new body. Since this is a "spare time project" it will take a few years to complete but it will be unique when done. The front half of the body is an early 50's Ford cab over and the rear is from a similar 1/2 ton. He cut the back off both trucks and joined them together back to back making the rear doors suicide versions. Then the cowl came off the "rear cab " and the back panel from the "front cab" will go back on making it a unique crew cab.

The frame is sitting on blocks now so you can imagine how tall it will be with 37" tires on it. The engine is a 250 HP with an automatic and the truck was a Laramie.



Since the new cab is a lot narrower the Dodge dash had to be shortened on the passenger side in order to fit. The heater box will be mounted under the rear seat. In order to clear the engine the cab had to be mounted up high so there is lots of room under the rear seat. A removable dog house allows room to work on the engine when necessary.

He has done it right. I have learnt if I ever do another project like the crew, I would likely start with a modern frame and concentrate on dropping the older body on. Much smarter.

I remember a few years back there was an article about a fellow who was doing something very similar with two 30's something dodge truck cabs going onto a new 02 D/C chassis. We never heard any more from that. I even emailed the TDR mag people for a follow up story but never even got a response.
Lets not loose track of this one!

Here is an updated picture of the truck. He had it at a car show today. I got to go for a ride in it yesterday. Way cool. If you closed your eyes you would think you were in an ordinary CTD powered Dodge. Everything works just like it did in the Dodge. Shad

Beautiful work so far, Glad you're enjoying it. You've got a great project going there and I hope it turns out good for you.

I did something similar a while back. I found a 54' ford wagon to use for the roof and I also used the upper wrap around tail gate hatch as the rear glass. The proportions make it pretty easy since they are very close in width. I used the original COE frame though.

I'll see if I can find the CD the build pics are on and send them to you.

The cabs look like they are from a 56. The 53-55 had slanted A-pillars.

There is someone running around the Salem, OR area with I believe a late 1990s BowTie Suburban that has been modded with the Cummins drive train. I saw (and heard) it last Sunday, and that sound of an open exhaust 5. 9 cannot be mistaken for anything else !
