After months of head scratching trying to figure out an intermittant miss, I think I've found the answer. Stop being nice. I recently cranked the Juice to Level 3-3 and let 'er go up the hills. Hitting 1400* for 30+ secs. The miss is all but gone. Still there every now and then, but nowheres near what it was. A lot more fun to drive too. :-laf Now I'm just worried how long my transmission and rear end are gonna last doing that.

Oh yeah, this is pulling a 30K trailer. Too much fun. Oo.

I'm starting to second guess the whole exhaust modification for the purpose of lowering EGT's. Maybe there's a reason these things are supposed to run hotter than the 2nd genners.

Bone stock, mine would run 1400* pulling a hill loaded. These are designed to run hotter for the cat and emission crap.

The high pressure injection system is much more sensitive to cooler EGT's. Keeping the EGT's up will help keep alot of crud cleaned out of the engine.

Almost everrything I've done to this truck lowers one temp or another. It's kinda hard to force myself to heat 'er up good.

I've just been noticing a few threads on "misses" so I thought I'd share my findings.

My dealer has another customer with a similar miss. They called Cummins on it and the Cummins guy said "he's not running it hot enough". Dealer didn't tell Cummins that this guy has a Juice stacked with at least one other chip/programer and routinely hits 1500*. Still, he might do enough putzin' around to clog it up.

I'm starting to think everything I thought I knew does not apply to this truck.

Cattletrkr,

Can you explain what your miss is like & at what rpm's?

I installed a Van Aaken C-3. 2 (duration-only) box on my '03 & at about 2200 rpm's, at 3/4+ throttle, I get a short miss that you can hear in the exhaust & feel, slightly. This condition lasts only about a second & then goes right back to normal.

Is yours anything like this?

I'm not sure if it's the box or the engine running out of fuel. If it was running out of fuel, I think it would not get better after the 2200 rpm range. I would think that the engine would continue to miss because of the low fuel condition.

I would appreciate yours & anyone elses opinion on the miss & what is causing it.

Thanks.

Joe do you still have the origional lift pump? I have replaced a ton of them this summer... ... ... ... Bob

Hi Bob4X4,

Yes Sir, I do. 48,000+ miles. That's the only time I notice the miss & it's just for a second. If you keep into the throttle, the miss goes away. Even up to redline.

For that reason, I would guess it's not starving for fuel. However, I could be wrong. I'm certainly not a mechanic!

If you think it's the fuel pump, what do you suggest doing? Is the pump still under warranty?

If I have to replace the pump, I was thinking of going to the Glacier Diesel (Walbro) pump setup.

I've heard that the replacement, in-tank pumps aren't that much better than the fuel filter mounted pumps.

I would, very much, appreciate your recommendations, Bob.

Thanks for responding.
