2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission socket size for axel nut

need some advice I have to remove the nut on the rear end on my 98 2500 to replace the axel shaft seal does anyone know the correct socket size to be used , I did a search and came up with two different sizes and also need to know if it is a six point or more ? thanks

KDS part #2436 2- 9/16" was what mine is.

I have the same truck, same year and all, should be the same.

Technically, it's a 6-point rounded-corner socket. But a non-rounded socket fits, too.

If you cannot find the right one at your parts store, check at a truck & trailer supply store (for big rigs). They usually have an excellent selection of those big axle nut sockets whereas auto parts stores seldom carry anything that large.

I picked mine up off a truck tool that was at a dealer. Told him what I needed and luckily he had one.
