Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) soft clutch pedal on an 00 6 speed

my buddy has a 2000 cummins with a 6 speed. truck has around 45k on it and he has just recently noticed that the clutch pedal is really soft, he has to push it to the floor to get it to disengage where he used to have to barely push it to do the same. he says it doesnt feel ike it is slipping just alot of pedal travel when shifting gears. any info is apreciated. thanks

I've heard the master/slave cylinders on the clutch don't have any adjustment. Maybe one or the other is going bad.

As the clutch wears... . the pedal usually moves closer to the top of the stroke and finally starts to slip as the plate load falls off. .



When the clutch pedal has to be pushed to the floor to get it to release is usually wear in the linkage... . at the clutch lever... or the master and slave have some air in it... and the air keeps it from working... .



Brake fluid can absorbe water... and can boil which causes air pockets... .



I'd assume you haven't ever bleed or replaced the clutch fluid... this is the first step... I'd get the slave loose from the engine and compress the slave by hand... . pushing the fluid back to the master... . I'd get rid of the old fluid... .



Once I knew there was no air in the system and if you can't get it to function I'd look for wear on the metal parts... . those that are loose... . once I've decided all the above is good or has been checked only than would I pull the transmission and check it out...
