When I got home yesterday, I had a nice surprise from Dodge.

There was a software upgrade for my radio on a disk with accurate instructions. Instead of having to go to a dealer, I guess they will now send the upgrades to the owner.

It took about 15 minutes to install and it upgraded the NAV system and from what I can tell, upgraded the radio software as well. The great thing is that it didn't lose my station presets. The only thing that was reset was my audio preferences (balance, fade, equalizer). I reset those and it may be my imagination, but the radio sounds better now. Some of the Sirius stations audio sucked and sounded very "tinny". Not anymore.

It also added the NAV icon on the touch screen so that I no longer have to go to the menu.

Thanks Dodge for getting something like this right. Not having to go to the dealer is a good thing for something this simple. Also, not making me ask for it is even better.

I've never heard of having to go to a dealer for a NAV system upgrade. Even the Audi which is money hungrier than no other sends DVDs...

Alan, which radio do you have? I have the RER... mebe this is only for the new nav radios... I`ve done my own software upgrades before, when the dealer was clueless bout anything but a map update

Mine came with the 430. I had the 730 in my last truck and liked the radio but had a lot of problems with it until the dealer finally got the disc from Dodge and did the upgrade.

I haven't had any problems with the 430. It has a few less bells and whistles (no Siruis traffic for one) but otherwise works just fine.

This seems to have been more than a Nav upgrade since the controls were reset.
