Solenoid for exhaust brake

I need a solenoid that I can use to operate the exhaust brake on my truck. I have a 12 volt Thomas compressor and a brake installed on the truck. I am going to install a small air tank so I will have air for tires. I will run the exhaust brake off it also. Anyone know where I can get a solenoid and a mounting bracket?

I bought one from Grainger to do just that. PM me if you need a part number. If not be sure you get one that is a two way three position so it'll bleed off the air cylinder when deactivated

It looks like Surplus Center might have one that will work. Granger is a good idea, the company I work for has an account with them. I am going to look in the cataloge Monday.

OK, I dug it up. The valve I used is here. I've only had it in for a couple months but it's preformed flawlessly thus far.

You need 2 valves... on that turns on/off the air... like you mention above and a second valve on the air cylinder... the valve on the cylinder is designed to quickly dump thie air in the circuit once the solenoid shuts down..... If you don't use this dump valve you might run into some delay in the opening of the exhaust brake... .



If you have any questions about this... . please email me... . If your solenoid has the ablility do dump a reasonable amount of air through the exhaust port of the solenoid this might not be needed...

The valve is a 3 way normally closed valve and appears the vent is a full flow port. It should be more than enough to supply and dump the small air cylinder on the brake. If it is not I will add a quick exhaust.

The valve in my link works fine. It's normally closed to the pressure tank and in that position it vents the brake cylinder to atmosphere through the top of the valve. Works slick.
