I was talking with someone at the Salt Lake City get together about the bogus tamper alert on the factory alarm system. When I leave my GPS plugged into the power outlet, I get a tamper alert when I return to the vehicle. He suggested that I wire the GPS directly to the battery and that this could possibly be avoided. I took it one step further and suggested wiring one or both power outlets directly to the battery and this would eliminate this problem completely. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Man you got me... I would think power draw would be steady on a GPS but maybe it is trying to acquire a new or weak satellite. I want to hardwire it into the truck and mount an extrenal amplified antenna on the dash where the windsheld meets the dash. I have a Garmin V and found that it sets perfectly on the ashtray and will not move while driving. It will also fit completely in the ashtray and close out of the way of prying eyes.

I've got a meggellan blazer12 I got one time for purchasing a set of Bridgestone tires. I works ok and I've been looking for a place to mount it. It also fits in the ashtray completely out of site. The base and all corners are rounded and it will not sit anywhere by itself. I have mainly used to check my speed since I had 315's put on.

I don't know much about the Magelllans but have not heard anything bad about them. I started out with a basic GPS (Garmin 12) but have since moved up to a Garmin V which I really like. Do you run an external amplified antenna on yours?
