I've been researching the snot out of this, and I've found a lot of good info, but some of it just doesn't make sense to me, thus I figured I'd post.

I have a '71 FJ55 Land Cruiser that I want to shoehorn a 6BT into. I just purchased a '90 6BT, that I have yet to pick up. I want to put a NV4500 behind it.

From what I understand, the flywheel, clutch, and bolt pattern are all the same between the getrag and the NV4500, but you need a bellhousing adapter (from either A/A or Quad4X4, everyone seems to prefer Quad). Why can't you use the stock NV bellhousing with the Cummins engine adapter plate (apparently available new from Cummins for $160-ish)? Is the aftermarket bellhousing just a stock BH with the thicker adapter plate molded in place? What's the scoop. No one seems to mention this in the other posts...

Thanks for any info!

Yeah, I read that too. Supposedly you can just have the nosecone on the starter swapped at a good starter/alternator shop...

But will the stock NV bellhousing with the Cummins engine adapter plate allow for a bolt-up?

The second gen block plate is about an inch thicker than the first gen. You could use the second gen block plate, bellhousing, and innards but I don't know if the clutch slave cylinder and starter from first gens will fit up. you can also get the adapter stuff from 800-std-tran and don't forget to trim about . 060" off the front bearing retainer of the 4500 so it won't hit the clutch disk, assuming you will re-use the Sachs clutch from the first gen.
