First question,

What is an acceptable amount of current draw from the battery from the dash clock and radio memory?

I measured . 012 amps draw inline with the battery cable when I installed a new battery last night.

Second question,

My 83 Crew Cab has factory cruise control. The cruise can be turned on without the key in the ignition switch. Its time to dive under the dash now and check this out.

Anyone have a factory manual for sale for a 1983 W350? Or any reviews on a good aftermarket shop manual that has a wiring diagram in it?

Any of you other first gen's able to turn the cruise on without the key in the ignition?

I would think the key would have to be in the run position for the cruise to even have a power feed available.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Paul,
If your reading is right on the current draw then it seems within specs. . 012 is just over 1/10th of one amp. Just about right. on the second question, Haynes manuals have a full page wiring diagram on the speed control wiring itself. according to my manual, you should have a light blue molded connector in your under-dash wiring. This comes from the accessory feed (hot with key on only). The power for the cruise control should be an 18ga. black wire with a molded on light blue bullet connector to mate with the light blue molded connector. According to this wiring diagram, that black wire then goes into your steering column connector to feed the cruise. Hope this helps. If you want to look into one of these manuals, its a Haynes #912 "Dodge Pick-Ups full-size" and covers 1974 to 1988 4x2, 4x4, full-size pick-ups/Ramcharger/Trailduster.

Good luck, Jones
