First of all thanks for all the helpfull hints that everyone has posted on installing Gauges on the 3rd gen TD. Besides the help on line the instruction that Geno's Garage supplied where also very helpfull. Here are a couple of more suggestion that I have for installing the Autometer boost gauge. The main problem that I was having is installing the "boost bolt". After removing a M10 bolt from the intake manifold that was marked in the instructions from Geno's I had problems fitting the supplied boost bolt into the position of the M10 bolt. The boost bolt that is supplied from autometer is a 3/8-27 thread bolt. I measured the thread before I looked online what the specific drill size one needs to thread it properly. Turns out that the hole that is on the intake manyfold is large enought to thread with a 3/8-27 die and the boost bolt fits snug in place. It is essential not to overtorque the boost bolt because it is made out of softer material than the intake manifold and leaks may occor. I hope this tid bit of information will make the process of installing the boost gauge a little easier. The next project will be the EGT gauge. Will keep everyone posted on that one.

Wait a minute, something's not right here. It's true that the manifold bolt threads are M10x1. 5. I know a 3/8-16 will *almost* thread right into it without any retapping (if you chase the threads with a 3/8-16 tap it works perfectly with very little material removed). A quick check of Machinery's Handbook indicates that a 3/8-27 thread is "UNS", meaning Unified National "Special"; it's a non-standard thread, so I find it amazing that Geno's is providing such an odd size when we know M10x1. 5 is standardized, easy to obtain, and the factory bolt size.

Obviously you've done fine retapping the manifold hole for 3/8-27, but I would urge anyone else reading this to consider using a standard Piers boost bolt (www.piersdiesel.com) which has M10x1. 5 and requires no tapping of the manifold (so the bolt can be removed later and replaced with a standard Cummins manifold bolt if for some reason you want to go back to stock).

Hi,

Just looked at pictures of your truck. Those stacks look great. Did you make or buy the parts that you used? Any info would be appreciated.

I also bought a boost bolt from Geno's, and had no trouble putting it in... . it was easy to start by hand and then I used a socket to finish the install because it was a bit close with all the tubing, etc in the way, but no problem. Had it in for 6 months and all is well Oo.
