Am I Reading This Right?

Nutndun, how do you drive truck in big city? I live pretty much out in the middle of nowhere about 100 miles straight west of the Twin Cities. I have always been amazed by how anyone can drive truck in a big city. Whenever I drive my car in the Twin Cities I always leave a cushion between me and the car in front of me, just in case I need to stop fast. There is always people cutting in front of me because I leave enough room and then I need to slam on my breaks. I don't know how anyone can drive a big truck in the city and not crap there pants. I have a CDL and have driven a little truck where I live and I just can't imagine driving in a city, especially when them city folk drive like there crazy. :D

I rode with my old man once through rush hour, in LA..... MAN was that an experience in a truck... . lol He's done it 100's of times though and it was no big deal to him. He just takes it easy, keeps a buffer, if he can. And when he needs to move over, he does. Cars there or not... . LOL Just puts the blinker on, waits a lil while, and gradually works his way over, he looks over at me and says, eventually they'll move... . LOL

LOL, thats exactly how ya have to do it, for some reason the 4 wheelers can't see our turn signal and/or ignore, probably mostly the latter of the two. I always throw the signal on when I see a space, if noone lets me over then I swerve the trailer over to that lane a little bit, alot of times that works. If I get one that speeds up so I can't get over... ... . guess what I coming over LOL

Graet thread, thanks for the pics NUTN. Sorry to hear about the accident :{, it almost looked like your truck took more damage then his car.

I love your view from your office window

Hey Ian,
Getting the truck fixed is going to be a little bit of a slow process, I could just go through my insurance and pay my deductable to get it fixed and then my insurance would go after his insurance, my problem is the truck is going to be in the shop for at least a week if not two weeks and with the truck being my main source of income they are going to pay me down time whether they like it or not. So I want to take care of it all myself, or if need be I will get a lawyer and take em to court, they were trying to push me away saying that they won't have a copy of the police report to dertermine liability for another 3 weeks, I told em to look for it in the fax bin this morning, I faxed it to them last night, and the lady called me at 8:30 this morning to tell me that they are accepting liability... ... . LOL. I started laughing and she said what, I said all this time I already knew, just you people wanna play hardball. So now I gotta get by the body shop and get the estimate done so and also so I know bout how many days the truck will be down so I can add downtime to the estimate. So everything is looking up in that aspect.

That truck should do good for ya, what cummins is in it, I am guessing it is probably a N14 because of the year of the truck.

and with the 89 year, that should be the PT fuel system on it then eh? cummins was one smart cookie coming up with that pt system...

Wow, sorry to hear about the accident. It's really a shame that some idiot had to go and ruin such an awesome looking truck..... I love the night shots. Come May 18th, I'm starting the course to get my CDL here in VT, although I won't be able to drive interstate until October (which is just as well, since I have one more semester of school left, lol). After that, I'll be traveling the roads of New York, in the Albany/Oneonta/Binghamton stretch, most likely, until my girlfriend is done with school and we can head back home to VT for good :)

As for that wahoo's insurance company, try to get as much money out of them as possible... . otherwise they're gonna screw you hardcore... . don't ask me how I know, I'll just leave it at "my life has been he11 for the last 4 months" (but it's getting better now, so I can't complain too much :) )

Well gang, figured i would post an update on everything to this old thread... LOL

Anyway to make a long story short everything finally worked out and I got my money from the insurance co. I can't complain with the settlement either because they are covering all of my downtime. Anyway just to show what the truck looked like after the accident I will post a pic of it wrecked.

Here is a pic of it the day after the accident:

Here are a couple pics or her torn down in front of the garage waiting for the new fenders and bumper to be put on. The inner fender on the passenger side is still on there in these pics which was taken off to be painted black cherry also which I will explain why in the next post.

Well here is the almost finished product, I wish I would have taken more pictures of the progress as I went along but I had too much on my mind. I planned on painting the fenders myself but the local paint place mixed me the wrong color three times. I was going to paint the fenders just like they were with the fire red inner fenders and black cherry main fenders but with the paint scenerio problem I took a different approach. I want to have that hot rod look, where it is clean and simple with just enough extras and not too gawdy. So I painted the inner fenders and the main fenders and also the polished front brackets all black cherry. I got a 20" boxed end no bolt hole bumper, and mounted the turn signals on the outer bottom ends. I got rid of alot of lights in the goal of simplicity. The drivers side of the hood has a slight concave in it making the fender stick up in the air about an 1/8" higher then the left one, I am taking the truck to the body shop so they can rack the hood back in place. I also have an appointment at the shop to get the cab and sleeper roofs painted black cherry also, I am going to remove the wing, stainless roof covers and all of the horns to go for the clean look. I also put $3,000 worth of stacks on it, they are 7" bull haulers with the 90 degree elbows that come down to the bottom of the tanks, the stacks are sitting right at 13' 1" tall. I also replace the cab and sleeper lower light panels with stainless blanks. I am hoping to be able to get fiberglass doublehump fenders for the rears but I need to do a little more research to make sure I'm not going to bash them up pulling the trailers that we do. I would hate to waist 2 g's. Anyway let me know what ya think so far, I can't wait till it is finished, at least now everyone on the road won't be staring at me like I don't know how to drive... . LOL

I forgot to mention the spotlights on the cab are coming off too and I may possibly mount new ones at the bottom of the a-pillars. I also changed the single round headlights to ones without the amber lens at the top and also put in what they call crystal headlight lenses. Anyway here are a few more pics.

Oh and I am also having a polishing party for anyone who is willing to show up... . lmao just kiddin. I';m going to have to save that stuff for another weekend.

Coming from someone who loves lights, it looks a little plain, like stock.

Not to crazy about bull hauler stacks, either. I would've gone with 6" miter tops or turn-outs again. But, that's just me, I guess. They still sound sweet. :D

Aside from that, it looks great. :D

I think I'd keep the SS on the sleeper roof, spot lights and the horns.

I'd help polish, if you were closer. :) Then maybe you could help me polish the T-8. :D :-laf

I love lights too, but after having them I am looking forward to the new way, not having to worry bout lights going out and replacing em. I was also going to go with 6" stacks but ended up going with the 7 so it would fill in the void where the old mufflers were before. I went with the bullhaulers to try to be a little different, seems like everybody around here had mitre cuts and turn outs. If i was going to go with straight stacks I would have gone with the straight cut, but they didn't have any when I boughtg mine, they would be a little more old school, hell I probably even would have put rain caps on em to be different too... . LOL

I'm not looking forward to polishing everything, I am contemplating taking it to someone to get that first good polishing job done so they can sweat alot doing it... lol I have the acid and the high speed buffer, just can't get motivated to do it.

No sound clips, it is alot quieter then I thought it would be, cats are usually the quieter of motors, till ya wind it up to about 1800 rpm with 40,000lbs behind ya then they bark, turbo wistle is awesome betwen shifts, jake is really loud.

Looks awesome. The way you described the wreck, it reminded me of Smokey And The Bandit when "Buford T. Justice, of Texas" tried to pass the truck and didn't quite give himself enough room. He ended up on the side of the road. That was hilarious. I'm just sorry your truck got damaged.
