Re: Think about this

Hey folks,

I think the "big three" have ALWAYS been slow to listen to their buyers. Just look @ the market share of Toyota and what's happening to our U. S. auto industry. Each U. S. vehicle produced has over 8500. dollars built into the cost for retirement, medical/legal, etc.

If Toyota ever puts a Cummins in a full sized truck your problems are over.

The US manfacturers have always tried to control, by holding the importers to less hp/torque, to offset superior quality. Want four auto up/down elec windows, as an example? Don't buy the truck unlesss it has that feature. This sounds like hardball--- it is --- the only situation is that right now the " big three" are telling us what we can have---- Importers give us almost everything AND service it to the hilt. Your money counts toward total units sold.

Don't buy the product if you aren't happy. :--)

JAH

My Dodge is an import ;). I thought I was buying American when I got it. I came from two Nissans and a Toyota. Loved them all but they wouldn't tow like the Dodge.

Like yeah man, the window thing is a real drag. I can only crank down the two driver side windows at the same time if I'm feeling especially coordinated and completely stopped or somebody else is steering.

One word - pre600 Cummins;)

Unh uh, that is one word... and one hermaphroditic number :D

Im not making fun of what he has said but if you have to carry a socket to remove the fuel filter cap its way to tight, i take mine of by hand and retighten by hand, I could be wrong but i think i read somewhere that about 35 ft lbs was max on those caps. I can't find any bar in my seat of course im not that big of a guy weight wise that is (not anymore used to be). And like someone else said its a truck not the Sunday cruiser some would like it to be, i bought the ST truck because I wanted a truck, because i can unlock my own doors and roll my own windows down, just my decision on that.

Have a good one Fellas... ... .....

With my job we average between 75 and 200+ miles per day and my ONLY complaint is the bar in the seat. Puts my right leg to sleep almost every day and the dealer says that's normal. Thats why I'm heading for an upholstery shop and NOT back to the dealer...

I'm out,

Richard

One of the things a Ford really excels at is taking 10 acres to get turned around... ... a Dodge will turn circles inside of a Ford - and I have seen it time and time again especially when going down a mountain road and get to someplace where you can't go anyfurther. I can find a place to get turned around --- the guys in the Fords - just get better at backing up... ... .

Stop B*tchin. .

his truck, his money, he's got a right to *****, or praise, as the case may be. me, i'm glad to have SOMEONE ELSE do all the comparasons and then post em here. thats what its all about! look whos talkin about whining!

1. Dodge Seats suck!!!! I constantly have this pain in my right thigh from that metal beam. No problem in the FORD. Seat cushions firm and nice.

I think ALL seats suck. I want anti-gravitational hoverpads that hold you exactly where you want to be, without excerting any force on your body.

2. The interior door panels rattle way to much. The interior of the Super Duty was quiet even on gravel roads and logging trails. My Dodge doors are not quiet even on the freeway.

Sure it can be annoying, but I'd say about 90% of the 60K+ mile vehicles I've been in rattle to some degree. If it's really a POS and started rattling before 35K or so, why didn't you have the dealer fix it? Most of the 3G trucks I've been in (over 50K on some) are still solid and more quiet than my 2G ever was.

3. Electric window circuit is to weak. In the FORD we rolled down all 4 windows at the same time. No big lag in speed there.

If it's really that weak, it must be a problem with your truck. Quite a few of them have had this issue, and it's always been remediated. When working properly, they're plenty fast... who's in a "window race"?

4. I like the amount of room in the back of my truck. But after the FORD, My truck feels like a midget mobile. DODGE make a real crew cab.

Didn't you know that BEFORE you bought it? I happen to like the short wheelbase the "shortie" Dodge offers, but if you really needed more room, there are other options. However, I agree it would be nice for DC to offer this, and it appears it will happen fairly soon with the Mega Cab.

5. this isnt a comparison to the FORD. BUT COULD YOU GUYS HAVE MADE THE HEADLIGHTS ANY HARDER TO CHANGE?

Agreed, kind of a pain, but not really that big of a deal. I've never had to replace a bulb more than once every few years... usually never.

6. Oil Filter and Fuel filter placement could have been better. What if you need to change the fuel filter on the road. Do you think every one keeps a 1/2" drive socket set in the their truck?

I don't see a problem with this. I think the fuel filter is extremely easy to change compared to a lot of vehicles out there. The only time I had to change mine "in emergency" (truck wouldn't go over 45mph), I was still able to limp to a store that let me borrow a ratchet off the shelf (to "see if it fits").

7. Rumor is you are going to away with Cummins and use Benz diesel. ARE YOU CRAZY.

That's pure hogwash.

Did they pay no attention to their competition? It seems they are worried about quantity more than quality and are having trouble in quality. They have so many NEW products out they don't care about what they are already making.

No single company can do EVERYTHING perfectly. There's a lot more to building a truck than you think. Let's see you try to build one and keep it under 40K, with lawsuits, health care, r&d, EPA, etc. I agree the some more diligent effort would be nice on their part, especially in regards to the MPG issues and other problems that are repeatedly seen on new trucks in these forums. But remember, for every guy complaining out there, there's at least a dozen happy customers that haven't had an issue. I, for one, am pretty darn happy with Dodge, especially in comparison to the other 2 of the big 3. There are things I like about those brands better, but give it to Dodge for exemplifying creativity and inventiveness when it comes to TRYING to build vehicles the way we want them. Not in every case, but hey, the KFC bag holder is cool, they're bringing us the first SUNROOF in a truck, they're not putting in the poosy IFS on the 4x4's, we got coils before anyone else, they started the current body styling trend of mimicking a big rig, and still look better than the Chubby by far. If DC is reading this thread (yeah right), I personally want to be the one THANKING you guys for putting forth some effort. Now get off your butts and fix the EB issue on the 48RE, build the whiners a longer cab, and find a way to beat the EPA and give us our MPG back! :)

Go to THEDIESELSTOP. COM if you like FORDS. The site is great if you like to read about FLUID LEAKS<REPEATED MOTOR REPLACEMENTS>TURBO BOOST HOSES BLOWING OFF ENOUGH TO MAKE THE HOOD BOUNCE UP>TRANSMISSIONS BANGING SO HARD THAT THE TECH AND A FORD ENGINEER BOUNCING THEIR HEADS OFF THE WINDSHIELD. The best part is a thread that starts to go on about the DODGE 600 and the moderator getting a little bent and telling them to get back to the subject at hand FORDS. :D

JARICHARD is correct... . Mother MOPAR has really missed the boat. The interior is crap, i hate it. Whats up with the crew cab back seat, its almost as small as my quad cab..... Rode to Munice in a Ford four door truck, it was an extremly nice ride. Interior leg room was ausome... ... ... . Would i sell my cummins... never... ... . Would i buy a Ford... . Never. But for the money people spend i do feel Mopar is putting no effort behind keeping up or advanceing past the other manufactures with their interior design

Look who's talking.

Maybe you should take your own advice.

It seems to be only you are aloud to B%tch about Doges and other things around here, all we ever here is I wish I would have bought a 6 speed, people always say wow you got an auto in a truck with a diesel,I hate the way the transmission shifts all it dose is float and hang between gears. I'm worried about my turbo blowing, I don't like the factory hitch how do I remove it,I cant get my silencer ring out of my turbo. Etc etc etc etc etc.

And as of lately its been my girlfriend kissed my best friend, I have feelings for this other girl I don't know what to do about it, my, my guy friends are betting me up about it. Truck got smashed, the body shop is to slow, I miss my truck. My back, neck, arms and head hurt. I miss my girl friend. I want to make my truck a sport truck. Etc etc etc etc.

Not so,

Ford has had a sunroof available in their XLT and Lariat CC for at least a year now.

I know I'm getting into this late, but I though I'd step up for a few comments as well.

Between my '97 and '04 I had a 2000 Ford F350 CC SRW LB Lariat with the 7. 3 PSD and auto. I put 18,000 mile on it. Needed the "extra room" (we had a 9 year old boy and one in a car seat and the Dodge Club Cab didn't do it for us.

In 18,000 miles, I found the following:

- The Seats were worse than my Dodge. They didn't fit my 6'3" (220#) frame worth a hoot. Not to mention the head restraints were too low to be of any protection in a rear end collision. Now I have 4 ADJUSTABLE head restraints. I also spend 2 hours a day in my truck ~100 mi/day) so I feel I have a good understanding of the comfort of the seats

- It rattled as much as my Dodge (was in the shop 3 times for "fixes"). The dash layout "looked" like a truck. I prefer the "minivan" layout of the Dodge.

- Yeah boy howdy did it take a acre to turn around. My Dodge dually maneuvers like a miata in comparison.

- That PSD drank more fuel making less power than my cummins Dually - Not aples to apples, but I hated the 6 speed in the Ford - the shift pattern was terrible).

The Ford is gone. I looked at Ford and GM products when I bought my '04 and it came down to the fact that the Dodge IMHO is by far the best for OUR needs.

And yes, we now have 3 kids (2 in car seats) and we do just fine. BTW, all my kids are 95%+ for height and 70%+ in weight, so I have big boys. No little sissy boys here!:)

If I had to replace my truck again in the current market, I would buy the Dodge again.

My head hurts too... I thought the truck was for sale, now with the rims and the stereo and the lift, etc, etc, etc. Just like the dreaded "What if my turbo" post. . this one went nowhere fast.

What kind of seat package do you guys have that feel this bar in the seat?

My truck has the full electric package with the moving lumbar and moving bottom pad. When driving, the lumbar and the bottom of the seat are always moving up/dn or in/out to relieve muscle soreness.

In my case, the bar is across the back of the hips, just below the seat back. Hurts like the dickens, I have to slide forwards about an inch to miss it. That takes my back away from the lumbar though.

I believe the previous owner(s) must have been 300 lbs or something like that. The seat cushion is only about an inch thick towards the back. I need to just go have it redone so I can enjoy those "luxury" seats everyone talks about.

Geeeezzzzzzzz, I wish I had a $40k + truck at 19. I was lucky to have a 7 year old Corvette ('65) in High School. It was $1500 and I thought that was alot of $$$

:--)

Anyway, My only issues are the passenger side seat (wife hates it). I bought a "wedge pillow w/heat and the wife loves it. My other issue is paint chips. Other than that, I love my truck!!!
