Where can I buy a Diesel Generator in Michigan?

4 out of 5 isn't bad!!!

That's nothing - ever been there personally when one starts up cold? I was at work a couple weeks ago and around lunchtime I left the building.

When I got to the parking lot there was a company 6. 0 that had just been started. Outside temps were around 40°F. I swear to you, it sounded exactly like the video. But it's worse being there because you get to hear even more of the dynamic range of unholy noise the engine makes. It literally sounds like it might blow apart at any second.

The driver was sitting there with a look on his face like he wanted to jump out of the cab and run away for safety.

Go get a large metal pot from the kitchen and fill it with half-a-dozen metal forks. Wrap it with tape or plastic wrap (to keep the forks contained) and roll it down the stairs.

Dixon, you did the same thing I did: watched all the related ones. :)

Why do people make videos of this? Are they preparing a case? Or trying to prove to a dealer that there's a problem? I wish I could read more of the "story" behind these videos.

Funny post as it was about 40 the other day when I walked out to my truck, cycled the grids twice, went for a round or so and light right off.

My old '96 and '97 Powerstrokes did the same thing. Nearly impossible to start below 30 degrees, and sounded like ice cubes in a blender after starting. Glow plugs suck... not just as a starting aid, but in changing them and having the possibility of ahving them break off in a cylinder. My Cummins has failed to start once without plugging it in. Sitting for a week in sub-zero temps, it failed to start in 3 tries. One hour on a block heater, started no problem. I used to have a buddy who always started his Powerstroke with a shot of ether... I was always waiting for the grenade to go off under the hood! :-laf

The truck is gelling up. I used to have an '02 7. 3L PSD and I got a bad batch of fuel on two separate occasions. It made that exact sound each time just before it died. The rest of the time it started and ran fine in cold weather (but the 6. 0 is another beast).

When I worked in Alaska, we had about 20 trucks between 12v and 24v Dodges and 7. 3L Fords.

A few times the Dodges didn't get plugged in and it was around -30*. Cycle the grids twice, hold the throttle about 1/2 and they would fire up. Ran pretty rough though.

The Fords... :-laf Ain't no way in hell those would fire up if they weren't plugged. Shoot even at 30* they would have trouble.

My company 2001---7. 3 Ford won't start when it get below -10/-15c. ,from Nov till April i just plug it in everyday regardless of temps to save the headache. :-lafDW

lol, i started my 89 up this morning at 18 degrees. didnt even cycle the gird heater and it fired up no problem. powerchokes and duramaxipads are useless.

shoot even with a . 20 over marine headgasket on my 12v, i only cycle the grids once, it's fired right off at 20 deg. and i dont get to plug in my truck becuase i live in an apartment! those vidoes are ridculos! i cant think of any reason to want to own one of those trucks after i saw one of them start up.

Actually, I've been a Ford man my whole life (don't let this get out). If they had an inline 6 in a F350 that's what I'ed be driving. These gasser V8's with diesel heads are just BS though. It should only take one peek under the hood to send a person running. A plumbing nighmare!

Besides... this is TDR... we're supposed to give Ford a hard time.

I think Old Man Winter gives Fords a hard enough time. Ya gotta imagine the "oh crap" feeling a Ford salesperson has when some schmo off the street comes in and says "yeah I'd like to test drive that new Powerstroke out front!", it's 20 degrees out, and the truck is 100 feet from the nearest outlet. OH NO!!!!!!!! :-laf :-laf :-laf
