Have a brand new 05 QC, 4x4, 48RE, SWB, SRW, Laramie. Ever since I bought it I have noticed that when going over bumps such as speed bumps at a angle and low speed I can feel and hear something loose under the truck. The sound appears to be coming from under the passengers front foot wheel although I am not sure of this. It sounds like a metal on metal tap as if something is missing a bushing or is not bolted down and is smacking on the metal around it. You can both hear and feel it through the frame. I got under the truck, looked at the exhaust, fuel tank and everything else I could see and could not find anything loose. Does anyone else have this problem?

I had the same problem, speed bumps and pot holes and such would make my truck do it. What I found it to be was the main spring pack was contacting the overloads. It went away when I put the air bags on. In my opinion, the engineers designed this truck to ride a lot better than the 2nd gens, that resulted in softer/longer spring packs with more travel. But to keep payload ratings up they put a really stiff overload on them. It doesn't take much to send the main pack right down to the overloader spring, and with this new hydro frame the resulting sound resonates through the entire truck. Keep in mind that this is what I came up with, not any service department, and like I said, the ride rite air bags cured it. But I could be totally wrong.

I am sorry I should have mentioned that I have a 2500, so no overloads. And the sound seems to be coming from somewhere near the front of the truck. But thanks anyway for the info.

Several weeks ago WE started a thread about a BANG under what sounds like back seat. Mine in colder temps(20s/30s/40s)and not as much when warm makes a BANG when turning and the rt rear seems to drop like in a small pothole or uneven driveway or speed bump. Like some one gave it a smack with a lead hammer. Several folkes posted the SAME thing same kinda conditions etc. The post/threads just were that. It went no where.

I too have a sound up front. Can't find it. Seems to go away when warmed up some. Didn't make noise when new. I've added Kore 2" springs and noise is still there.

This may sound dumb, but check to see if your spare tire is tight under the box. Sometimes sound travels along the frame, and gives a wrong location sound. Anyway if this turned out to be your problem. CHEAP FIX!!!

Mine has the same clunk, sounds like it comes under the rear passenger seat, only while turning right and hitting a bump like a driveway. Jerry

My truck sounds like the right front wheel is loose over speed bumps and or in 4wd & basically sounds like a piece of junk. Has done this since I drove it off the lot... . I just chalk it up to poor Dodge engineering& try not to worry about it.

A few months ago, someone posted about a similar irritating noise that he was sure was coming from somewhere under the dash on the passenger side.

After tearing into the dash and finding nothing, he discovered his jack wasn't screwed down tight. In case you don't know yet, it's under the front passenger seat.

I have 27K on my 2004 and have more front end rattles, clunks, etc. than I can shake a stick at. I've tried to find them with no luck, so like mikepvg said, I just chalk it up to poor engineering.

Right front rattle

I had the 'clunk' from the passenger side on my '03 SWB 4X4 Quad cab. Took it in to the dealer, Lithia in Billings, and the tech found a loose bracket/fitting inside the dash board. Hasn't come back.

Afc

I had a bad clunk when going over bumps (2004 2500 5. 9L QC LWB 2 WD). I hunted for days and finally find that my trailer hitch has a lot of slop when inserted in the receiver. I took the hitch out and rode around and had no more clunks.

My clunk felt as if something was hitting the frame with a hammer. A loud hard clunk.

This clunk drove me crazy.

I'll agree clunk is driving me crazy also. It happens more so when cold. Sounds like front lugs are loose. I have taken a rubber mallet and hit everything on the frame and exhaust. I removed jack from under seat and removed drop hitch. Noise is still present.

I'm thinking holding the brake down slightly and bring the rpms up to say 2,500 might get ride of the problem. :-laf

I have had this problem also, I put a 2" leveling kit on mine and that is when I seemed to notice it. I went around and triple tightened everything under the truck. The shocks had to be retorqued. I was thinking of the dreaded ball joints. I lifted the front wheel and got a pipe and lifted the wheel up and down. I could here a clunk then. Let me tell you I have had this truck for over 2 years and under 11500 miles. I took the truck in and explained the results on the ball joints. The techs said that the joints were in factory specs.

I hardly have any miles on mine, so I just live with it. BTW it is noticable in cold weather

My noise is the Coolant Recovery Bottle sloshing around. The dummy's moved it from the front (where it should be) to the RH side next to the firewall, where it can drive you nuts.

Mind is from under the back seat area. Only noticed when rt rear goes over uneven terrian, speed break or small pot hole low speeds, worse on a turn. Sounds like both wheels dropped off in a pot hole from hell. (rt rear/dually)

Blu you are awesome

Dude you are right on!!! So is my old lady as she said it was some kind of fluid moving around and I blew her off..... well so much for that! I went and opened the hood, shook the truck and heard what seemed to be the noise. So I sat inside grabbed the steering wheel and shook the truck and what do you know, it made the same noise! This is why I love this site! No worries, you guys are awesome, as well as the old lady. I checked the jack by the way and it is tight. Thanks again.

My clunk went away along with stock exhaust.

Installed new dual set up and no more clunk soI would have to say tighten clamps at turbo mount and all the way back
