I have a problem,I think.

My truck seems to have got a lot of power from somewere,I havent done any mods lately just what I did a few months back that are listed on below.

All of the sudden my dually will roast the back tires on a takeoff,I talking dry pavement,I has always ran very well, but it wouldnt brake the tires loose, and im talking all four tires, and it seems to sound different,I didnt notice it my wife did,and she was right it sounds different, not a bad sound just different,My boost is the same, about 38lbs of boost, mileage seems the same,im just wondering if maybe the pump may be giving up and maybe going out with a last hurra.

Not sure what it is,it smokes a lot more also, black smoke, everything eles seems the same, any ideas will be appreciated. Also I use the same fuel everytime I fuel up,the same station all the time. . Thanks

If thats wrong than I wouldnt want to be right, what ever it is if you have any extra send it my way please. :D :D

I would not complain...

Too much free power...

Maybe the boost module or VA was not fully working right to a bad contact, or maybe the lift pump was not operating correctly before? The engine will get more power as it breaks in. It also could be that your fuel station changed its supplier or the fuel quality got better. Could also be a sensor that is now working correctly.

I would think with your mods that smoking the tires would be normal. Relax, sit back, and support the tire companies. :D :D

What was your odometer reading at the time of the change? A theory that's been batted around here is that the ECM will turn up the power in stages as the engine is broken in and will also adapt to the way it is driven most often. Maybe Marco has some insight on this?

Well the odometer read 82,000 miles, but I went up north on friday and I was going up 65 and then I lost power, the truck would go but when I pushed the pedal down it just smoked real bad but wouldnt pick up any speed, about 50 is all I could get,so I stoped in Wittimore and had a beer and let it sit for a while and about an hour later it started up and no problems til I hit River Rd.

Then as I was turning the corner on to River Rd it just didnt want to go,it got up to around 50 mph all gauges looked good, the boost whould still hit 38 as usual but it wouldnt go anywere, well I made to my destination in Oscoda, and I woke the next morning and put a fuel gauge on it and taped it to the wind shield and it said at wot it was around 6psi to 7 psi not sure about the #s if this is good or not.

I changed fuel filter again it ran good all Saturday, burn the tires again, and then on my way home sunday night it hit again, any ideas????????

DFoster,

Is it blowing black smoke all the time or just fast starts.

Black smoke is usually related to over fueling (unburned fuel).

transfer pump, ECM, VP144, sounds electrical (electronic) to me.

Check your air intake/intercooler hoses and pipes for leaks. .

Maybe getting a whole bunch of free after the filter. ???

 Well I found the problem,it was the VA box, took it off and it runs good, not as good as with a good VA box,but not bad.

I put my brothers new VA on my truck and it runs like it use too,ive had my VA for about a year,I am going to send it back for a replacement, thanks for all the help. . Hope this takes care of the problem:D

Dave, I am experiencing a similar problem with my truck. With the VA plugged, it has loads of power, but seems to have more turbo-lag than before, plus it belches an atrocious plume of black smoke on takeoff or when passing (low boost to high boost). My boost levels are good and my 0880 air filter is clean so I now its not an air leak. Unplug the VA and everything is ok (minus the power). I called BD and they want me to have the lift pump pressures checked before returning the VA to them. If the lift pump was below spec. I think I'd see white smoke, not black. I think the problem is overfueling or incorrect timing, especially at low boost, so much so that off the line performance is impeded instead of enhanced. Sorry to say it but my Powerstroke excursion is much quicker from a stop now, although when the VA was working properly there was no contest.

Well this a new one I think, one of the post on the plug inside the VA wiring plug was loose on the incert side of the post,a friend of mine run a small sleeve over it and pluged it back in and now it works great, and it still has that new power I was saying earlier,it must have been loose for a while,I am afraid to sent it back for another one,I have heard the new Va boxes are not as good as the older ones, still thinking about that one. :)

Thanks for all the info guys, will keep you posted on the out come:rolleyes:
