Something weird happening to my truck

This morning when I went to start my truck a weird thing happened. When I turned the key all I got was just a click like the batteries were dead. I tried again and she started right up. The check engine light came on, the trip meter reverted back to the odometer, and the over head reset itself. Drove to work, let the truck sit all day and she started right up. The check engine light was still on. I cycled the key a couple of times, restarted her and the cel went out. Anyone have any idea why this happened.

check all battery connections and grounds, sounds like an intermittent poor connection

Would say the same, had exactly the same with my Jeep in the past - have been corroded batterie terminals.

Checked and cleaned the terminals. Nothing. The problem kept repeating itself. Since these were the original batteries I thought maybe it was time to change them. Well that seems to be the problem as the truck has run trouble free ever since. I guess this was the truck's way of letting me know 7 years is a long time for a set of batteries.
