Something wrong with these EGTs??

How will 120 horse injectors compare to my box?

Fuel pressure gauge isolator warning!

All info in sig. I'm still running the HY-35.

Comp on 5x5, OAT 60*, 36psi boost, 8psi fuel.

WOT 0 to 90 I only see 1450 egt. Of course unloaded.

I hear people talking about burying the needle on

stock HX set ups. My numbers don't seem right, do

they?

I'm going to put on my new Jardine exh today and have a turbo

upgrade in the works, in order to get more efficient air into the

manifold, but none of this is because my EGTs are too high.

What wrong with this picture?

Your EGT's sound about right to me. Your running a mild set of injectors and a mild fueling box (DDUFM). Those people that you hear about burying the pyro (like myself) are mostly running pump wire fueling boxes (TST PM3, Edge Comp, etc) and/or large injectors (DD III's, EDM's, etc). If you had a pump wire fueling box on top of your setup that needle would move so fast it would be a blur - until it started bouncing off the pin :) .

I thought the comp was a pump wire box?

I think you may have a bad EGT probe or gauge. I had this happen to me. I was getting lower than expected EGT and changed out the gauge and probe and all of a sudden I gained 250 degrees EGT.

Mike

Edit: Ok, post says Comp on 5x5 and sig says DDUFM. Which is it, or are they the same thing?

Ooops, my bad - must be the drugs. I missed the 5x5 in the post and was thinking the DDUFM was the same as an EZ. Brain isn't working too good right now. You didn't mention whether your probe was mounted pre or post turbo - which is it?

My brain does that too.

No biggie.

Yes the Diesel Dynamics Ultimate Fueling Module is a modified

PE Comp and I do have the wire tapped.

The Westach dual egt/boost gage is pre turbo and the connection (I forget what you call it) from the thermocouple wire to the gage wires is in the cab. So the differential temperature is cab temp not engine bay temp. Oh yeah, the probe is in the aft half of the manifold.

So, ya think that could be right? Or is something wrong?

Sounds about right for low elevation. A lot of times us High EGT fella's are at high altitude too, like me at 5000' trying to run a tight auto converter w/ a big turbo, big injectors, big fueling box. Hard on EGT's, hard on my face from smiling every time I mash the go-pedal!!! :D

I had the same setup as you except a stock exhaust. Even pulling a cabover and boat up 8 percent grades in the Arizona heat was never a problem. Full throttle never went over 1450. Changed to Kurts kwik spool 45 last summer and have to feather the throttle to keep EGTs below 1300 on the same hills. Full throttle empty it goes to 1700 real fast. Almost ready to put the old HY back on but the 45 does have alittle bit more kick at top end.

azpete,

I think you've got too small a turbo on their for your fueling mods. The 45 is a baby compared to a KSB1 or regular B1. If I was you, I'd be running a KSB-1-2 for your towing needs. Maybe even a B-1-2. I think Kurt sometimes doesn't think about how much fuel we're really running. He told me the KSB-1-2 would be enough for DD3's and Comp and it's nowhere near enough air... the B-1-2 comes closer, but is still a little lacking on the top end at altitude

I still think your temps sound too low. But dont feel bad, I took mine out and ran it real hard through the gears on 5X5. I never did see over 1450. I am at about 750 feet and the ambient temp was about 65f. I think my pyro has been lying to me since I bought it. I have had guys tell me I should be able to bury it within like 50 feet at WFO. But I cant seem to do it in a quarter mile.

My pyro is pre turbo in the back half of the manifold, just like yours.

jtisdale,

You have the dragcomp too, which I've heard kills your egts.

I bought the gages from Genos. A replacement thermo is 35 bucks. And I doubt if they would mind if I borrowed a gage for troubleshooting purposes. If the thermo was the problem I'm sure they'd give my money back for the replacement I just bought. Then I'd know for sure. I have someother things I need to take care of first, but if I ever find out anything I'll let y'all know.

Thanks for the advice Snowracer69. Alot of turbos out there to make a decision on. It gets expensive when the wrong choice is made. Live and learn. Besides the B-1-2 how does the dodgezilla stack up?

Haven't ran the dodgezilla, but know a lot of fellas are. Know many on the NWBombers site are happy with it, but to me it still started as an HX-35/40... many have gone pop (not dodgezillas that I know of, but 35's and 40's in general).

If you call Ken in Phoenix, he'd probably make you a deal on a new B1 since you have a 45 right now (am not 100% that he makes the 45, but pretty sure, as he makes the B1's that Kurt sells... Ken is the guy to go to if you have problems w/ a B1, btw).

Isn't 1450 a little higher then a guy wants for EGT's. I can get mine past 1500 mark in a hurry with the comp on 5x5.

I like mine to stay under 1250.

1500 for short bursts isn't bad for a truck with injectors and boxes. The problem is keeping them down when towing up long grades.

Snowracer, I met Ken at Firebird raceway one nite last year. Said he probably built the ks45 I have. Will have to get up there to see him about an upgrade and a new 4" exhaust he said he has for a very reasonable price.
