ok guys, this is a long story so bear with me. about 2 weeks ago i was having problems with my truck starting on a regular basis. (starter would spin but engine would not turn over. ) i checked my fuel pressure and it was really slow to build so i replaced my lift pump. now that cured my problems for about 5 days. when i started having the same problems again, i had my starter re-built, replaced my fuel shut off silnoid, and shut off silnoid relays. what i found was i had some sort of short somewhere. when i would put a new relay in, and then plug in the shut off silnoid i would pop the 10 amp fuse inside the cab of my truck. . we couldnt find the short anywhere. we even went as far as un-plugging the grid heaters, and still nothing. as a last resort we by-passed the silonoid and relay all together with a manual fuel shut off cable. removing the bracket, and shut off silnoid off the side of the motor. good news, my truck is running and working well with the manual shut off cable. bad news, the truck acts like ive slid the AFC housing back or spun my star wheel all the way in. the truck doesnt want to rev very high and wont smoke at all... when i can normally black out a 4 lane hwy. my boost, and egt readings are exactly the same as before the shut off cable was installed. im at a loss guys, maybe there is an avenue here i am yet to explore??? has anyone on here run into any of these problems??? TIA

If the starter is spinning but not turning the engine over, I don't understand why you were looking at fuel issues??? It'd be either a stater or flexplate problem.

From what I understand of what you say, the starting problem is completely fixed. Is this correct? You might want to see if you are getting boost to the AFC. If it has an EGR (CA truck) then the AFC fitting may be plugged by soot. What does your fuel pressure read on the road? Have you checked timing?

timing is still @ 23. 5* and i am getting the same boost levels as before the manual shut off cable was installed. this is a non-egr truck (was bought here in texas. ) i get about 20-25 fuel psi @ idle and well over 30-35psi when running at hwy speeds... i think im going to have to re-do the shut off cable... . ive talked to a couple people that have the shut off cable and i think with the way its installed right now its not allowing full fuel to the injector pump... im waiting for some pictures from member c. harlan to see how he installed his.

You're gonna have to wait a little while. . I have one defective batt pack, and the other one is charging so I can snap some pics. I am having camera woes like you are having fuel woes...

Ahh, if only you had a SPRINT phone, I could send pics straight from my phone to yours! j/k... . I will get the pics to ya ASAP

-Chris-

after seeing the pictures you sent, i can tell you right now the cable i have now is cut way short. im gonna swing by the int'l house before work and it wont take but a second to swap out the cables... .

now i can see exactly why your cable was setup backwards from mine... . we had the right idea... . but... . ill call ya early this afternoon and let ya know how it goes... . thanks harlan
