My 96 is acting weird, seems to be in the morning only, or after first startup. I start it drive it out of the garage, backup to the flat bed trailer or just run it a few minutes and shut it off and then it wont start again, it turns over good but no fire. Open hood tap on fuel shutoff valve (with key on), press on the throtle and most of the time it will start, some times it takes two trips under the hood, so far it hasn't been towed or abandoned. Starts good the rest of the day. Whats going on?

Mine did that a couple of times. It sounded for a while before like the batteries were weak. (A slow-dying battery will sneak up on you in warm weather. ) I checked the batteries and found one almost totally defunct. When I replaced the batteries, there was a noticeable difference in the quickness of the start, and the fuel shut-off that kept it from starting on me has functioned perfectly ever since.

I think a low voltage or borderline voltage situation will not make the fuel shut-off snap back into "run" position, hence the phenomenon of "Dumb truck won't start". If nothing else solves it, check the batteries. ;)
