sorry if this is long but ... . if you think of the mighty power of the cummins as sound on a TV it is like someone turns the volume down ... ALOT. it happens more when it is cold but when its warm and i get on it and it is like i have 30HP let off and get back into it and it runs great. i replaced the TPS and the injection pump. i know the TPS is good. to my understanding there are three things that control this problem 1. TPS 2. injection pump and 3. ECM

is it possible that it is the injection pump or does it sound like the ECM. how often does an ECM go bad? is there anyway to test the ECM? i hope it is not the ecm i just spent $5700 on my truck this weekend i cant afford any more. :{ (DTT parts and trans labor -- $3400, injection pump -- $1300, lift pump -- $120, 60 HP injectors -- $400, bell crank assembly -- $400, Fuel pressure guage and pod -- $200)

any help would be great

thanks

drew

Apps & TPS two words for the same part.

I've never seen an ECM cause such a problem without setting at least a code or turning on the Check engine light.

Instead it happens quiet often that the power loss is due to the MAP sensor.

I know that when I was elk camping in some cold weather last november, the first I morning started my rig up (about 5 degrees) I almost needed to look at my tach to make sure it was running. Started great, I figured the cold 15-40 was dampening the combustion process. Never got on it after that, just putted around, didn't happen every morning but it did it a few days. After seeing the 3cyl cold start forum I figured it was early programming for cold weather.

My roomate's '02 is doing this right now, he is sweating the big load right now thinking it is his IP. I told him it sounds like the APPS, but we could both be wrong maybe it is the map sensor. Funny thing is is he has an Edge Comp too, and at first if he turned the box off while it had the dead pedal it would comeback to life, but this morning he said it was doing it with the box off.

Drew,

I don't know wether or not you have checked this or done this yet, but one thing that I have had an issue with was the connection on the pump wire, I would sawder the connections.

i talked to drew the other day. he had another injection pump installed and it fixed the problem.

stefan, i will be calling you soon. we talked a couple weeks ago about a torque converter.

TDR member Bob V. The guy is a genius when it comes to pneumatics and such.

He sells several different kits (I think). The kits use high quality parts and come complete with comprehensive instructions including diagrams and schematics. All that at a great value. I have had Bob V's super shifter kit in for almost 2 years with absolutely no problem at all. I use it all the time and couldn't be without it. He is a great guy to deal with and can answer all your questions.

Do a search on his name, and you will see what I mean. BTW, I am not affiliated with him in anyway, just a very happy customer. Oo.

yep it was the injection pump. they said that one of the plungers was sticking. the only thing that scares me is they said when the pulled the old/new pump out there was no key way in the tapered shaft and i know that when we put it on that it was there. but they still put a new pump back in. and it seems to work out good.
