2016 Ram Eco-diesel. 6300 miles and I have not yet seen anything about regeneration of the soot filter/screen to burn off carbon buildup.
Friend with similar Ram at 10K miles has seen regen 3 or more times.
How often should I be seeing a regen message? Or is his doing more than it should?

Your truck will regen every 100-300 miles (even more frequently if mostly city miles) depending on your driving style. You will only see the EVIC message if several regens fail to complete and the soot level reaches approx. 80%.

If you never see a regen message, you are doing good.

Soot Loading Strategy (Quoted from GDE)

The ECU runs two different strategies in parallel and takes the higher of the two outputs to determine the current soot loading:

Strategy 1 is a simulated value, and is calculated according to how complete the previous regeneration was, and how the engine/vehicle has been operating since then (engine speed, load, ambient conditions, exhaust temps, etc). Different OEMs design different variations of such a strategy, but for the most part the high level concepts are similar. The strategy employed by the Ram's stock tune is fairly rudimentary.

Strategy 2 is a physically measured value calculated off of measured pressure drop across the DPF, the DPF temperature, and the known flow rate of exhaust gasses.

The soot loading is used to trigger the regeneration when all the correct criteria are met.

I have a 14 eco diesel and have had issues three times with my filter not being able to regen. and I have never gotten a message saying it was regenerating.
It is in the shop now waiting for a replacement particulate filter 100% blocked. I really like my Ram and the fuel mileage, but I'm worried the extra cost to keep it running will far outweigh the gains I receive in mileage.

That's kinda how I felt about my Jeep CRD....very different animal but once I got it away from the dealer, started fixing it myself and got the ecu flashed by Green Diesel Engineering it's been wonderful. I highly recommend a Green Diesel reprogram.

All your doing with GDE tunes is pushing your problems to future problems. Their tunes Bypass the EGR cycle ..in the future that soot will accumulate in the chamber causing internal leaks..Don't waste your money on aftermarket tunes or devices until the DOJ finishes its criminal charges with FCA.. IMO all 3.0 VMs will be re-called /Buy backs. Rumor has it New motor late 18...Have repairs done under warranty hang on and wait out the final outcome... and most of All Do NO visit the Fake news forum at 1500diesel.com.

Please share with us when you block the EGR chamber VIA EGR valve ? is the soot going to disappear? I challenged GDE on this the actuator has a bypass, they displayed the previous Valve on the 2.8. They were found to be wrong and incorrect.

JJJ... I will make correction when Proved in correct... I could easily support the fake BS ...that Green Death environment promotes ..if I over looked the facts... GDE could easily promoted the facts by recommending removal of the EGR chamber and selling hardware parts to block off Up pipes and plenum plug... They do NOT do this because they want to fool FCA by deceptions. They do NOT remove FCA markings & certified labels on the ECM/PCMs they molest....Facts the second you molest the ECM/PCM you violate the law and void your warranty, GDE entire process deceive the maker into believing the programing is OEM certified. GDE does that have the balls to promote the facts......GDEs days are # regardless of how I or you fell about it... ECM encryption is Now here... I just found out that Our entire WITech security will NOT meet 2018 requirements do to this NEW encryption .. by the way it cost FCA $10 million to produce ..GDE does NOT have the resources to break this NEW software code, of course anything can be Hacked..its just a question of $ and time, NO one going to spend $ on ECM hacks for DD use.

So I seemed PO it BC we are Now going to have to upgrade our entire hardware and network to support this new systems..the cost is going to be in the $1000s plus the hassle. I could only imagine what Dealerships costs are going to be..

It's like talking to a brick wall not to mention trying to make some sense out of your rants. It makes sense for you not to use the GDE tune. For other educated owners it makes sense. End of my rant...

JJJ.. What part of Share with US ...I'm sure many are awaiting your miraculous Soot solution...YOU have not support you comment with 1 shred of evidence. other than your emotional condition, and wall habits.

You're asking me to "Please share with us when you bock the EGR chamber VIA EGR valve". The only thing I know about 'bock" is it's a strong, dark beer typically brewed in the fall and aged through the winter for consumption the following spring.:)
