Just noticed soot on my rear bumper I haven't noted this before. I washed truck in AZ. So this soot is from my drive home mostly 65 to 80 mph drove straight home with stops at road side rests to stretch my legs. I never noticed this on my Old Ford 6. 9 diesel as I recall the tail pipe on ford was a lighter grayish color. Engine only had 4000 miles on it when I drove down Now it has 5000 miles on it

Do I have a problem ??

Thanks, Bill

A polished tip, or a turn-down will solve the problem. The airflow around the truck is what causes the problem. I had the same problem on my truck, when I still had the box on it.

Not a problem. I think that all diesels put out soot. Some designs keep it off the body better then others. If you want to keep your bumper pretty, I would suggest a turn down exhaust extention from Geno's.

Thanks Everyone, I just hadn't noted it before, I guess the winter rains had been washing off. The the 800 mile trip must allowed it to acumilate. Glad this is normal, truck sure was great to drive on interstate, but you KNOW that.

My dually has the same length tail pipe as the single rear wheel trucks resulting in the bottom of the right rear fender catching alot of soot. Like said above putting a tip on, extendeing the tail pipe takes care of the problem. I put a Banks tip on mine extending the tail pipe out and no more problem.

You should see my bumper after running my smokey Van Aaken 3. 2 at high altitude with a larger turbo  . It only took 40 miles and I saw soot forming on mine. Of course my 5 inch exhaust does not kick it away from the truck as good as the stocker. :-laf
