Wish I had the digital camera today. The Citgo Station just above Manchester, Maryland has a new sticker on the diesel pump:

Low Sulfur

Highway Diesel Fuel

(500 ppm Sulfur Maximum)

WARNING

Federal law prohibits use in

model year 2007 and later

highway vehicles and engines.

Its use may damage these vehicles and engines.

Guess they're figuring on some 2007's hitting the road before the new juice is in the pipelines? Then will the new engines will be in all '07's and not the '07. 5's? Everything you hear refers to model year and not calendar year...

I saw the same sticker at exit 149 on I-85 between Atlanta, Ga and Greenville SC. It was at a TA Travel Center. I actually felt special to line up with the big rigs, except for all the d*** fuel sitting on the ground and all over the nozzel to track in the truck. :( It just scares me what kind of crap we are going to be dumping in our trucks in the very near future. Mike

The EPA is requiring this ULSD to be phased-in by the fall, so in a few months those stickers will start to disappear as all fuel becomes ULSD.

Yeah, it seemed pointless to put up the stickers when the new fuel is supposed to be in the pipelines starting in June, but sometimes mfgr's like to sneak the next year's model out early so it's a just-in-case kinda thing... .

For sure. And it is expected that when they start pushing the new fuel they'll actually cut waaaaay back on the sulfur so that when it mixes with the old fuel the sulfur levels will average out. I keep telling myself that maybe the US will start seeing a higher and more consistant quality supply of diesel...

OR NOT! :{

So, are they going to have different filler nozzles like they did when they went to unleaded gas? I'm concerned that over time our fuel will get phased out (just like leaded gas did) and since they will have to produce and carry two types the prices will go up.

It would seem to me that the old supply and demand way of thinking might come into play regarding pricing and in the long term a phase out of one type of fuel over the other. With that thought in mind, I get the impression that the NEW fuel is being phased in and that is ALL THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE at the pumps. That leads me to the thought of having to use an ADDITIVE on a constant basis in the new, phased in low-sulpher diesel fuel? I think I'm on the right path with this thought, but maybe not? I am hoping that someone with more technical knowledge will step in here and give some discussion shedding light about all of this fuel stuff.

And may I remind EVERYBODY - Who's Your DADDY????

ULSD proudly brought to you by John Kerry and Bill Clinton!!! OPPS - Those guys AREN"T IN CHARGE!!!!!!! Sorry - I can tell you now if Kerry or a Dem were in office THAT"S ALL WE WOULD HEAR ON THIS@!!! BE HONEST!!! Now maybe in the long run it will be OK and nothing more that the thoughts we had when unleaded was required - not sure - but I have my doubts... ...

I'm confused here.

New Fuel. Supposed to be for new motors designs. But they prohibit it's use in new motors?

No, the fuel currently in the system is the old stuf (500 ppm sulfur). The new stuff (15 ppm sulfur), though available in certain areas of the US, hasn't hit all the fueling stations yet. I suppose (just my guess) in areas in which it is available, the fueling stations have to put up stickers letting you know what your buying. Here's a map showing the availability.
