Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) SOS - Transmission adjustment

Trying to do my first transmission change. I downloaded the Geno's guide. My problem is that on each of the adjustment screws they keep going down all the way before I can get hardly any torque on them, let along 72 lbs. worth. The transmission was running fine until this occurred. Now I just put it back and when it tries to shift out of first it binds up and won't shift. Please can some one give me some guidance here.

Double check your instructions.

I think it's 72 inch pounds not Foot pounds.



12 inch lbs = 1 Ft lb.

I thought that the scales of inch LBS and foot LBS were differant. Eric

I have two torque wrenches.

One is set up for foot pounds, lowest setting is 25 ft lbs.



The other is set up for inch pounds, max would equal about 30 foot pounds.



Foot pounds for heavy torque/larger fasteners.

Inch pounds for light adjustments/smaller fasteners.





12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound.

The bands are adjusted to 72 INCH-POUNDS. That equals 6 foot-pounds.



Most torque wrenches that are calibrated in foot-pounds will not read as low as 6 foot-pounds. You will need an inch-pound torque wrench to do the job right.



Some consolation: Even after you pay for the wrench, you will still get the job done for less than a dealer would charge you.



I'm reminded of a phrase used in aviation when the situation is starting to get bad. "You just can't BUY training like this. "

True but a couple of times I would have been delighted to sell it to someome else while it was happening!
