Hope this is the right place to post this, What do dual stacks sound like, compared to a regular 4 inch exhaust? I'm talking about normal everyday driving, I've only heard the stack set up on sled pulling videos and they're screaming, but what do they sound like at normal driving? I have a 4 inch JRE exhaust and I love the sound, kinda sounds like a loud growl at times, and I've heard a Banks 4 inch, and was behind a first gen that had a single stack complete with rain cap, and I could have swore I could hear it, (I can rarely hear anything from inside my cab with the windows up, and he was in front of me). Thanks... .....

I went from a 4" Jardine exhaust system to 5" stacks and its my oppinion that under normal driving there isnt alot of diff but when you get it on the stacks are a bit louder, my wife claims that just cruzin the back seat is a bit louder but for the life of me I have never been in the back seat while the truck was moving... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... down the road of course heheheheh

Cheers, Kevin

why would you be in the back seat? Much more comfortable and more "manuevering room" in the front seat w/ the console up... . not that I'd know anything about that though ;) :p

DO IT! Kalaehina

I LOVE my stacks!Oo. You know that I "had" a set then took 'em off and sold them. :{

I WON'T! make that mistake again! I've got my factory 3" downpipe to about the middle of the transmission, then a 3"-to-4" adapter made by a friend of mine, then 4" flex, 8"middle to end 4" 90* elbow up into the bed, 4" crosspipe, two 12" middle to end 4" 90* elbows, two 5" to 4" reducers, and two 5" turnout stacks!

SOUNDS SWEET! If your gonna do it with a regular cab though you need to get them above the cab a little. Mine are about 5 or 6 inches above the cab. They measure just under 53" from the bed floor to the top tip of the turnouts. With the windows up all you hear is a mild hum (keep in mind straightpiped)... but you know they are there. Windows down and they are a little louder mild-driving... ..... MASH IT and they talk to ya!:cool: Oo. Oo. :-laf

Not the best picture, but its the best I have of the new setup.

Hey Mark, is there a reason why they need to be higher then the cab on a regular cab? I kinda like the miter cut ones, but if there is a problem with it then maybe turn outs would be better, what were your experiences with it? Also has anyone had problems with excessive exhaust coming into the cab because of having stacks?, I know the obvious would be standing still and the wind blows it in an open window, but what about at freeway speeds, do the aerodynamics of the bed and stacks force the exhaust into the cab? Thanks

Funny you should ask. My first set of stacks was some Miter's even with the cab so I could "still fit in the basement" well they resonated SO BAD! inside the cab from being right there at cab level that it was AWFUL!:mad: Took some getting used to, but you had to really speak up to talk to anyone running at hwy speeds or trying while trying to say anything on a cell phone going down the road (yeah yeah I know so shoot me!:p )

But that's why you'll want them a little ABOVE the cab. I switched to turnouts above the cab a few weeks before selling my original set of stacks and the sound difference was like night and day!Oo.

The miters also are rain collectors so that's why I got away from them. Made my white truck look like a holestein cow! :-laf :mad:

As far as the exhaust issue nah its not that bad. Might want to watch hanging out the window while backing up after a fresh start up. I've gotten some soot on my sleeve's before doing that.

But other than the above stated probs with lenghts/types they are great man!

Alright, this is good info Mark, just what I wanted to know, so we definately should go higher then cab height, do the turn outs change the sound or was it the height? Thanks again for the info bud.....

Honestly I dunno if the turnouts would change the sound or not, but the height is a definately factor in the resonance off the back of the cab. ;)

Glad I could help.

Hell I'm not doing anything tomorrow and I'm already planning on taking some burnout pics (getting new tires Wednesday) so I'll take some detailed pictures of the plumbing and stuff for ya tomorrow.

When I first did my stacks I had flat tops with rain caps, they were even the top of the cap and really, really stinking loud in the cab, of course they are next to the side of the cab (look at pics in readers rigs to see what I mean) I then put 18in 90* tips which made them about 18in above the cab and a lot quieter in the cab.
