Soundproofing Cab

I am in the process of dropping a 01 24v into a 86 Jeep Grand Wagonneer and am wondering what I can do to tone down the noise? I have the dash out as I am installing the dash out of the doner truck(01 2500) and am going to use the firewall shield out of the truck. Is there anything else I can do to keep it quiet in the cab. This is a vehicle that I will be taking on long road trips in the future and I don't want it to be too loud. Would having the firewall lineXed or something like that help? Any info is greatly appreciated.

The ultimate solution is to gut the cab and have it RHINO-LINED. or any similiar spray in bedliner

I have already thought about having the entire cab linexed but am not sure about cost. Cost me $500 to get my truck bed sprayed I don't know how much for entire cab. Could be pretty expensive(as if I haven't spent enough already)

Look for information from Greg the noise nazi he seems to have done the most stuff for noise reduction.

Use as much rubberized undercoating as you can stand(don't forget the doors and roof), but put down a zinc oxide primer first to ward off rust. Very important make sure each coat is dry and setup before applying the next coat. Then add some 1/2 thick insulation mat on the floor, sides and roof which you can get through most catalogs or a good automotive paint store, check them out also for the undercoating as well. I like the one with a foil outer shield to keep heat in and it seems to form better. Also very important, seal all holes in the floor and firewall, you won't believe the difference this will make. Also try to put down as much carpeting down inside the cab to absorb noise. I like carpeted dash mats because of this. Hope this helps.

I like to hear the engine but when all I hear is the engine it needs to be a little quieter. And I don't want to still hear the engine an hour after I shut it down. Besides in my new job(Marine Corps-Infantry, as soon as I finish boot camp leave in Feb. ) my life can depend on my hearing, so I think I'll take care of it.

Heck, if you like to hear the turbo sing, you should hear the one in my 2nd gen. I have an PDR HX40 and a meg cannon air filter, it sounds like you are sitting in the rear seat of a 727 during take off . And I am not the only one to hear it, when I pass another car or truck, the drivers jump if I spool up the turbo as I go by .

The eaisiest solution is to wad up the sound proofing and put it where it counts: in the ear canal!!
