For about 6 months now I just my exhaust off after the cat so i could decide what I wanted to go with (stacks, duals, full magnaflow system) Well I decided on stacks and have yet to install them...

Well, last night I cut the cat off and replaced it with a 3" alum pipe until i can get my stacks on which should be a few weeks or so.

Wow, does this thing sound nasty. A cross between a muscle car and a tractor. The turbo sings loud and the truck sounds very mean.

My EGT's went down about 50 degrees after taking that cat off and a felt just a touch more in the power dept.

I have a phony Cat (stock cut to fit around the 4" pipe) with no muff and hells yeah it sounds awesome. I was over my buddies the other day, he hadnt heard it yet, he was washing his truck as I was backing up his drive to unload my atv, he stopped what he was doing and just stood in a trans looking at where my tailpipe exits. Didnt say anything about it then, But when me him and his buddy left to go to the bar he says to his buddy wait here until he starts this thing up it sounds like a dumptruck. Gave it a few nice throttle bursts up to 2K rpms and they said it sounded great... .

5" straight with stacks also sounds REALLY gnarly! So gnarly even the cops pull me over to listen to it, then they say turn it off and show me your license and registration. . :{ :{

Sweet I like telling those kind of cops where to go. I get into good argurments with them since all they can do is a stupid little fix it ticket.

Remember, mine right now it straight pipe dumping out right at the end of the cab... .

wow i'd like to post a sound clip :)

Except in Wisconsin. Cost me $150 :--)

I've never had a cop do anything but make astonished faces or point a finger at me when there was a cloud being made. Never a ticket though and I don't have a muffler of any kind or a light foot.

If you haven't gotten stacks yet and need some call Ed Kin @ Heavy Truck Parts Int'l. (813)991-7001, tell him R. J. sent you and you might get a discount.

That is where I got my stack kit from. Very good quality stuff.

However, I would not buy from Heavy Int. Parts Again.

The item was sold on ebay and was out of stock. Did not offer a refund and I asked for some compensation for having to wait 3 extra weeks for a product that was sold as in stock. The other guy, (not Ed) was rude and did not care about doing anything for me. They offered to send me chinese stacks instead for the same price when I paid for GR made in USA ones. Well, never again, I have always contemplated doing a partial CC chargeback on the principle of it. If I could, I would have left neg feedback but that would get me it in return so it was not really worth it...

I just let everyone know not to buy from them...

I am glad you had good luck with them!

Erik

Well that sucks. I've never had any problems with them, and I found them on e-bay too. I've referred quite a few people on TDR to them also and they had good luck and got a discount from saying that I sent them. Ed is definitely the only one to talk to though, his son is OK too. I think its just them left now, there was 3 or 4 of them, the bad apple(s) got fired. I hope all is better now, I'm about to order another set in a few weeks.

My brother ran with the straight pipe cut off under the passenger's seat for a few weeks, It really sounds mean! I could hear him accelerating about 1. 5 miles away, and it sounded like a dump truck! When he was closer, as he shifted through the gears, the turbo spooling down sounded like someone barking tires! He has it back to duals coming out the rear now(it was duals with a straight flow muffler when he first bought it), with no muffler. It sounds nice, a little drone at 2100 rpm, but actually quieter at light throttle inside than when he bought it. :D

I ran my automatic with the pipe opened up under the cab a few years ago. It sounded like a lear jet when I accelerated! :D ;) Unfortunately, it also was a sign of a loose TC. :(
