Banks???

I cant recall the member that had a Six Gun tuner it was awhile back. He installed one of their systems and had a similar problem.



It started with a knock then toasted the motor. He made allot of noise about banks and who was responsible Driver/Banks etc. Then suddenly he quit posting, and would'nt post anymore.



Rumor was that he settled with banks, if he quit all the negative posts.



Anyone remember?



Living in So Cal and local to banks, I hear allot of negatives about their software products. All their hardware products are top shelf though IMHO.

Don't take this wrong, I hate the way Banks is distributing there products,In fact I think they are breaking OUR Master Distributors Agreement. By selling to Warehouse sellers on 3rd Party end users. Banks Customers are buy Banks Products like grocery shopping,the Sellers have no more knowledge of the products they sell then Cub food (super-Value)has of the cereals they sell.

You really don't have much credibility when you are known to sell the products then you defend them without offering any information or evidence. At best, you have one opinion, an obviously biased one. others may have different opinions.

I hope you are not attempting to silence our criticism when someone uses a manufacturer's aftermarket parts and destroys an engine.
 
I don't hang My laundry on the Net HB,But I see plenty of dirty Laundry Here. . Opinion "Nope" I investigated the Matter spoke Several times To MrM,Its NOT My Opinion HB its what the evidence proved... .

The Mr M..... You mentioned must have been another sucker. The poor sole I was talking about was in California.



By the way it's not just Dodge ECM's that have problems interfacing with, it is Ford and Chevy as well.

Removed the Banks box = no change.



Oil level is good and oil is clean - no smoke at all.



Removed oil cap while running and did not see any smoke or excess pressure. Looks normal.



Took a laser temp gun to each exhaust port. The third cylinder from the front (radiator) is obviously dead. This explaints the lower EGT's as the egt probe on the ATS manifold is more in this tube than any of the others.



Interesting that when I crank it over without starting it there is no knock. It only knocks when it is running.



I am going to cut the oil filter apart right now and look for any metal. If a rod was bent and hitting someting or if a wrist pin was broken, I would expect to see some material in it.
 
It seems unusual that you have a dead cylinder with no smoke in the exhaust. That would indicate a no fuel situation in addition to the noise.

It might be a good time to remove the valve cover and verify that everything in in tact, no broken springs, etc. While you're in there, you can disconnect the injector to that cylinder to see if it makes any further difference.

That was one of the first things I did.

I also ran it with the valve cover off and checked everything. The noise apprears to be coming from deeper inside that the valve train area.

The oil filter looks fine. No real evidence of any metal.



I also inspected the turbo and exhaust manifold - everything is perfect.
 
Are you going to tear it down your self? I suppose if you don't have a compression tester you could just yank the head... ... ... ... ... ... ... . It sure sounds like a piston going slappy slappy on a valve seat that has dropped.

Yes I am.



If it dropped a seat, I would expect the valve/retainer height to be fifferent on that corresponding valve.



Lots of good info on TDR and I will continue my investigation and share what I find.
