Sour Dough Pancakes

Got some starter from a friend, that has its roots in Alaska and the Yukon as far back as the 1890's. I have the history!

Anyway, the receipe is modified with the addition of Pumpkin, Vanilla extract, Blueberries and dark chocolate chips! My Son ate the first 6 pancakes right off the griddle. After Mom and I ate a few. 12 pancakes went into the freezer for a quick breakfast at a later date. These can be made on a griddle over a camp fire or the starter used to make biscuits or bread.

An old sourdough cook book I have shows a miner uncovering his dutch oven loaded with a sourdough concoction. Theres a MUSHROOM CLOUD that emminates from the pot and His MULE has his eyes bugged out and His ears straight up in the air:-laf. Kinda like a Mule version of:--)! GregH

Is that one of those deals that you have to have a bit of the orginal dough to get it going? My wifes family has that kind of a deal for Cinnamon Rolls. Those look good Greg. Keith ate 6 ? you better slow that young one down or get some locks for the cupboard doors :-laf

BIG! Yep, a small quantity saved from each batch before you add the other ingredients. It takes about 4-6 hours to make a good culture, once the starter is at room temperature. You use wooden spoons and crocks or glass containers to store the starter and make up a batch. Plastic and metal cause the flavor to be changed when the starter is working.

These are different than bread type pancakes. They can be as light or heavy as you like them. These were about medium with a 1# can of pumpkin mixed in. 6 of these for a 12 year old that weighs 120# and is as lean as a grasshopper? I dont believe he needs to eat again for a week. But that is up to him:-laf!

A good Sourdough Pancake is measured by how many Alaska Mosquitos it takes to carry off yer breakfast. These were about 10 Mosquito pancakes:-laf! GregH
