I had to clean out head bolt holes in an 855 Cummins that I overhauled a few years back. It was an uncommon metric bolt and pitch. I took the longest head bolt on the engine and took a cutoff wheel on die grinder. I cut into the threads at an angle across the threads in two places. Then, use some penetrating oil and ran the bolt down to the bottom of the threads and blow out with carb or brake cleaner. I have some head studs I am going to install on my 5. 9 and will do the same thing, since the bolts will be replaced with the studs.
