bbomb I am currently working with SouthBend on there latest version clutch for the 5 speed I will let you know how it works out. There 6 speed clutches work very well so I expect the best for the 5 speed as well.

I have there HP clutch I my truck and really like it. There is a slight chatter starting off in 2nd but in the 3 weeks I have had it in I have gotten used to it and can take off 95% of the time w/o any chatter. It holds all the power I'm making, but the tires don't #ad

There method of centering the pressure plate is well thought out.

alright guys I asked something to a wise man not long ago, he was giving me a ride halfway home when I had tcase failure, I had read a article in a 4wd mag about a monster chevy 4x4 with a 5 discs clutch in it. Why cant we stick to what we absolutely know works, spreading surfase load with more serface area and make a 3 disc clutch. Put springs on them in different radious' so you guys believe in needing springs are happy. Why dont we use what works? I hope this eventually leads to better products. #ad

Adam has a good idea , a dual disc clutch will work good for you guys.

I dont know about a 3 disc. Maybe you standard boys can help me out a little bit,
It still seems that some automatic guys out there that think that they can add a mystery switch or torqueloc and try hard or full throttle accelerations without doing any transmission or tc damage.

Now the standard transmission has 4 times the cluth surface than the aftermarket tc, now if you guys can slip yours at approx 275hp, what hope does the automatic guy have ?

Maybe you guys could point that out to the automatic guys the next time you see a thread on mystery switches and torque loc.

Hey Bill you ask what hope do the automatic guys have, I say YOU are the hope now hurry up and make it perfect. lol keep up the good work Bill.

In the case of us Manual guys Southbend is our hope.

Adam I'm just not sure there is enough room in there for all those disks without major modification. Have no fear I have confidence Peter at Southbend will figure it out.

David I'm not sure I am qualified to answer all the differences between Joe's clutch and the Southbend but we will talk about it this weekend if you make it to the SUNNY State.

There would never be room in there for three discs. The only way to have two discs (i. e. McCleod)is to remove the center damping springs and cut a step into the flywheel, leaving no cushion for the diesel "kickback" and causing aggressive idle chatter and eventual syncro shock failure for the load pullers. The only way around that would be a deeper clutch bell housing, shorter driveshaft (or two for 4x4's), modified shifters (L type), and extended electrical and vacuum looms. The next step would be to figure out how to incorporate a pull type release mechanism, as you would never get it into gear without a clutch brake. Cost; around $4500. I checked it all out. Went with Southbend instead... T

South Bend clutch # is MU1938CON-FE... Peter said thats its smooth, and will hold alot of tq? He said that with my PM3 and the DD'II that i will soon add, it will hold up, and then some? What does everyone think about this? If anyone has any interest in this let me know. What do you think about running the DD III's and the PM3. I was told it would eat turbo chargers? Anyone running this setup? Even better... anyone have the PM3, DDIII's, and this Southbend clutch? Let me know guys. . thanks.
Mike
